    Muir...

Does anyone know the status of the Clan Muir? Historically, we became a sept of the Clan Gordon after the last chief died. There is an effort to resurect the clan, but the website <theclanmuir.org> is outdated. I can't get any response from the people listed as guardians or High Commisioners...

There is no Chief of the Clan Muir listed on the Standing Council of Scottish Chief's web site, so their Chief may not be recognized by the Lord Lyon.

Is there a telephone number to call? That would be my recommendation.

    Regards,

    Todd

I am also a Muir, but not a member of the Clan Muir Society.
There was no Muir Clan booth set up at the Estes Park games this year.
The program for the games had Clan Muir listed with the same contact as the web site.

I agree that that the site has not been updated for a long time.

Andrew Green Is also a Muir and a member of the Clan Muir Society
He may have some information on what's the Clan staus

Many clan societies are all-volunteer organisations, especially the smaller ones. I wonder if the society officers are no longer in charge, or if the society has had troubles in the last several years. I know my own society has had some trouble after one of our founders died, and we've been rebuilding ever since.

I'm sure though, that some enterprising young "go-getters" who would be willing to step up and help out would be appreciated!

I thought that there was a chief? I think his name was Andrew Moore (a fine name to have in my opinion... given my first name, and my grandmother's name... eh, I'm biased). Of course, I believe he was elected, since there wasn't a direct descendant, if I recall correctly.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the guys operating stateside ran into financial hardships. If the group is all volunteer (which I am very inclined to believe), I could easily see it as not generating enough revenue to continue operations. This is disheartening from my perspective, cause I am totally stoked for learning more about the Muir line, where it has spread, and what influences Muirs have had over the years. The commissioner (or perhaps convener) for the region was working on a Clan history book (or shall I say a set of books) starting way, WAY back I think in the 250's A.D. and working his way forward. This was a really interesting piece to consider, but I have heard nothing of it since the Kelso games here in WA. I sent an email some months ago, but haven't heard much back myself.

If anyone digs anything up, please post!

Ok, so I sent an email. Hopefully I will get some kind of response. Browsing through the website I noticed that there were some hack jobs done to it. Hopefully these can get cleared up. I do not know if the Christmas decorations on there are intentional, or also the work of some random hacker with too much time on his hands.

    Keep 'em crossed guys!

    Hello everyone
    Old thread revised here.
Our family has been doing some work to get a database together showing Muir history and other intereting information which we hope to have coded and online this February.

We are in search of a name -- Who was the last living official chief of the Muirs?

Any tips on where to look for such information would be greatly appreciated!
We have had no luck contacting the Society.

    Kind regards,

    See & family

    Welcome to Xmarks!

I apologize for not knowing the information you are looking for, but I do want to give you Huge Kudos for reviving an old thread on your very first post, rather than start a new one. To me, that just shows you willingness to research and utilize the tools of this forum.

Best of luck on finding what you're looking for!

    Cheers!
