    First time out.

Hello to all again from Snellville, Georiga. About a month ago I purchased my first kilt (and SWK black Stewart) and began wearing it around the house. Well, today was my 'coming out' so to speak as I wore the kilt for the first time today out and about.

After seeing so many threads about the snide comments or strange looks, it was with great trepidation that I stepped outside my front door. Interestingly enough, there was not meteor strikes or oddball comments from anyone. The most entertaining comment was from a fellow at the local McDonalds while I was standing in line..... "I certainly wished more men had the ****s to wear one of those".

Thanks to all of you for the encouragement while lurking on this board to actually take the plunge!

    Mike

The anticipation is probably worse than the actual first trip into the "outside world".....is it not a real blast, though?

And when I get that "...gee...I wish I had the stones to wear a kilt..." line, I usually write the URL's for a couple of our "entry level" kilt suppliers and hand it to the guy...it's HIS choice whether he acts on it.

But YOU have acted on it! Guid on ye!

Congrats on your first outing. It gets easier over time. Just wear it with confidence and have fun. I know what you mean about being concerned because of the reports of being hassled, I think the negative responses get posted because we need a sympathetic place to vent, and the "nice kilt" comments are too numerous to report.

    Best regards,

Good for you. The first couple times outside in a kilt is the hardest (it isn't really hard to be out in a kilt, it's waiting to see what people will say). Since your first time out was fun, it keeps getting easier, so easy that you'll wonder why pants were even invented.

Sounds like a good day out. Walk with your head up and look like you are the most confident man in GA and people will treat you as such. I wondered a bit before my first time and it turned out I'd no reason for concern. I've only had one negative comment and that fellow had over-indulged in adult beverages. Many more times have there been compliments or favorable comments from teenagers up to folks much older than I. Enjoy the comfort and the attention.

I've had similar comments... from both men and women.

As far a comments are concerned... 98% of the time it's positive. Even so, it's a good idea to be prepared to handle the occasional idiot.

As has been said, it gets easier as you gain experience. From experience comes confidence. It's important to look natural and comfortable as though you were born to it... and not to act any differently than if you were wearing trousers. Other people can sense your confidence.

Anyway... It looks like you're off to a good start.

Congrats on the first outting. My first outting was about a month ago, and since the first time that I ventured with trepidation, it is now to the point that I just worry whether or not its clean... And as far as comments go, I've never had anybody give me a hard time, whenever anyone talks it's always positive. Unless they're drunk, but then drunkards will say stupid stuff to anybody... Just keep your head high and wear it proudly!
