    First kilt underway

    Hi Everybody

While visiting New Zealand last month a good friend of mine gave me 3.7 mtrs of double width tartan so after reading a few websites on kilt making I decided to attempt my first kilt, I've taken some of the measurements of my SWK black watch kilt and I've decided to pleat it to the stripe as that seemed easy etc. So far I've done the fringe, apron and about 12 pleats. My sister in law is handy with a sewing machine so she'll be helping me put it together. I hope to have it finished around New year and then I'll post some more photos of it. And if you know what tartan it is please let me know .

    Cheers

Can't wait to see it!! Have you had any previous sewing experiences?? Reason I ask is because I'm thinking of undertaking making my own as well and wondered what you thought of the difficulty?

The only time I did any machine sewing was years ago at high school in New Zealand since then I've only been sewing on butttons now & again. But as my sister in law is quite good on a sewing machine and I was given this fantastic tartan I thought why not give it a go and after reading all the comments on this web site I thought It's worth a try
