I need some help with my family.
Like the title says, I need some help. My parents don't exactly like my new found love of kilts as much as I do and I need some help to change their minds. Right now my kilt wearing is fairly restricted. I can wear it during the weak to school but pretty much nowhere else. I also have to wear something underneath (they do seriously check) all the time. I just need them to get comfortable with me in the kilt.
For example, my dad gave me this whole talk about how the kilt presents the "wrong image" to people. I don't quite get it. even though i wear mine causually, i'm usually my best dressed wearing it. He's really my main source of trouble and I need suggestions as to how to get both parents more comfortable with me in the kilt. I'm sure Xmarks can help point me in the right direction.

Hey, I figured you were in the band with a nickname like that. At least they let you wear it to school. And you probably should wear underwear just in case. The main thing with any relationship, be that family, or others anywhere, is communication. Hopefully you don't get "rebellious" with your dad, but have you asked him exactly what is it that he doesn't like.
If you have had good comments from teachers or friends, let him hear what they have said. Don't disagree with him, but try to see where he is coming from. Maybe he is just worried people will make fun of you or put you down, or even hurt you by a fight or something. He loves you and wants what is best for you, but may not see how it really is going.
You could tell him at least you are not a punk rocker, or a bad kid that gets into trouble, but that is hard for us to know without really knowing you. I am sure there will be some other suggestions, so read them all, think about your options, and let us know how this all works out.

You don't have to be Scottish to be comfortable!

Dale, sorry but I take it that you see something wrong with me cause I am a "punk rocker"?
Anyways
Nate, only thing that you can really do is respect their choices as you are under their roof.

Nate,
Maybe it would help to take them to Burns night in Conyers in January. See the thread in the Kilt Nights forum. Or, come on your own.

lmao, I was watching that when I posted maybe thats where it came from. The one where they told him he woke up on the wrong side of the rock was better.

Hey Neo, I didn't mean it to sound like that, I was thinking of Nate's parents. One of my friends is a punk rocker. He got into some trouble and ended up in jail and I was the only one who wrote to him and visited him except his parents for some time. Sorry, punkers are cool! I didn't mean to have it sound like that. I hope you forgive me.
