Any ideas?
I'm trying to think of what to get my friend, who is actually more like a brother. He is Scottish also, but does not know the Scottish name in his family. Is there a Chirstmas gift I could get him that is like a symbol of fraternity, friendship, or loyality? I want it to be Scottish somehow. I was thinking a piece of Gordon tartan with a badge, as a kind of certificate of unofficial membership to my clan?

That sounds like a very considerate and thoughtful kind of gift. I'd run with it.

I would recommend a Scottish quaich, which is a traditional symbol of Highland hospitality -- something he could set on the mantle or a bookshelf, but could also be used for a "wee dram" as well.

I think a Thistle pin or cap badge would be a great Scottish themed gift.

I also agree with this idea, even if your friend doesn't drink it would make quite a handsome display piece.

more information about the quaich...

And, if you still wanted to go the "honourary clan member" route, many companies sell variations of the traditional quaich with a engraved clan badge at the bottom of the bowl.

Todd
