Stillwater Heavyweight Oz?
does anyone know the weight of the Stillwater Heavyweight wool kilts? Is it a true heavyweight 16 oz? Or less 'heavyweight'?

The blackwatch is nice and heavy, the others are about 13oz.

I should think 13 0z fairly hefty.

13 ounce is considered light to medium actually. 10 to 13 ounce is what dancers wear.
14 to 18 ounce is also considered medium - heavy.
And then there are your 22 to 26 ouncers. Yeah. Think about those for a moment.

From what I have heard, this is a different type of wool than the worsted wool that traditional Scottish kilt makers use. If that is the case I would assume the weight measurement is slightly different as the weave would be different. Anyone got more insight into this?

the weight per yard might be different, but it would be measured the same.

So i guess it would be better to measure it in weight and heft in comparison to worsted wool kilts as opposed to pure numbers?
I've considered picking up a Stillwater but I'm cautious about picking up some featherweight thing. "Heavyweight" is a subjective term. Is the Stillwater 'Heavyweight' closer to 10- 13 oz or closer to 14-16 oz in worsted wool?

I own one of the original stillwater blackwatch heavyweights in acryllic and it is verra verra nice. It is no featherweight and has gone me through a few bitterly cold winter moments, one ice storm, and even a hurricane or two.
This kilt has endured abuse the likes of which you would not believe. Still looks pretty darn good, and you can't go wrong with stillwater. Nuff said.
