The First Sackett Kilt

... arrived last week, according to FedEx. The people in the rental office of my apartment complex didn't tell me until yesterday.

Sorry, I had to get that out of my system. Now on to business.

Back in this thread, I told you all that Matt had designed a tartan for my family, registered it, and that the cloth had been woven. It is now my honor and privilege to present the first kilt to be made in the Sackett tartan:

I'm not scowling - I'm smiling on the inside. Actually, I'm doing this in the inside:

The wrinkle at the waist is from bending over to check the camera.

Those were taken this morning. These were taken after a two-hour drive south to my parents' (and after the batteries in the camera died, so my phone had to be used):

Two hours of sitting on them, and the pleats are still good.

Its break-in phase was completed by going for a half-hour hike through the woods in 20°F/-7°C with the dog. I was comfortable the entire time.

The workmanship and quality are the excellent and outstanding kind Matt is known for. Fully lined, inner and outer straps, not a stitch visible. The fabric itself is 16 oz Locharron, and the colors are perfect. The camera (or the screen) isn't catching the richness of the earth tones.

Adam - Matt's base price for design, registration, and 4 yards single-width of woven cloth is $925. I asked for a total of 10 yards, double-width, so my total was $1881. So twice the price, but one brother wants a great kilt, Dad's getting something made, and there will be enough left for something for brother #2.

I love the colors, I am going to get Matt to design a Family Tartan after we get our colors decided on. My father always wanted one to represent the VA side of our family. Looks like I will have to add your Tartan to my wish list. If that is ok CR66

In order to be adopted into the clan Sackett, you must be able to do one or more of the following:

work more than those around you, without expectation of recognition or promotion,
eat like you've never heard of the word "diet,"
sleep standing up,
hold a knowledgable discourse on the works of Louis L'Amour,
provide me with any information about any Sacketts (people or places) in your vicinity.

Seriously, this is going to be special order cloth, so - yes, it's a great tartan. But it's going to be an expensive great tartan. And we've got four hundred years of family history represented here, so please wear it respectfully.

Bonus credit for anyone who gets the L'Amour reference without Googling.
