    My kilts are melting.

Ok. Allow me to explain. I sweat, and bleed, acid. No other way to describe it.

And my synthetic kilts are melting!

Last night during our kilt night, I noticed that my Stillwater wasn't sitting right. I thought the buckle had twisted. No... the strap holding the buckle had torn, and the fabric had seriously been eaten away. My PV kilt is doing the same thing around the waist band, an event witnessed by our own MacWage.

I am at a loss for what to do. It was said to sew on leather straps, and this is a good idea, but, I would just continue to eat away the fabric around the leather.

A leather lining was proposed, but wouldn't that get a little hot after a while? I am thinking summer, hot hot heat, leather wound tightly around my middle... Ugh.

    Any ideas?

I can sympathize, but I can't help. I can actually melt metal though as well. Every wristwatch I've ever owned has fallen apart. The inside of my class ring is actually pitted. Its not cool.

Dread, just stick to pure gold watches and jewelry. I don't know about a kilt woven from gold thread though.

Not sure Dread, do you know if it is just the PV, and acrylic that does this?

Cotton does it too. I eat through shirts, usually starting in the arm pits. Holes start forming. The fabric rots away in but a short space of time, all things considered. Which is why I always look like a Goodwill exploded when I am dressed. My collars all rot away.

    All images go clicky pop.

This was one of my favourite shirts. All cotton. The other day, putting it on, whatever was left holding the seam together in the arm pit gave up the ghosts. RIP. As you can see, the collar is rotten, holes everywhere. The colours have gone funky, and that IS NOT from bleach.

The bad part is, this shirt is only about a year old. Bought at Target.

My kilts are showing the same signs of, well, melting away. Very worrying, seeing as how I paid a lot of money for them. The Stillwater Irish National has rotted away around where the straps are anchored, I don't think I will be able to wear it again with out some serious rebuilding, which is silly because the area around the rebuilding will only melt again.

So getting a 16oz wool is just like flushing money then, I really dont know what you would do, maybe you should consider the lining idea.

Wool doesn't melt. I know that from experience. Wool survives quite well, but it is not something I buy a lot of, because, well, it is a pain to have it cleaned.
