My kilts get me in trouble. They get my son in trouble. That is what I think is great about them. I have been following the trouble of other forum members and thier kilts for a long time, I am sorry to hear of the trouble Ron is in with his new dress code woes (Riverkilt).
You have heard me describe myself as an old punk. I like to test limits, to see if people are committed to their " standards". One of my very favorite pastimes is history. I love to see people uphold the things their families believe(d) in.
That said I gotta shake the tree. You Scots are a freedom loving breed, your forefathers bled and died so you could be free. Some of their far looking concepts framed and founded the best documents of freedom. In short modern freedom owes alot to your culture.
I have also been following the treads about the tripp/goth kilt. I can't believe the things I read... I went to check out the damn thing for myself. It is more a kilt than alot of the things I see sold as kilts. Yep it's ugly. So are sportkilts in my opinion. That dosen't change the fact that I see the people who wear those kilts as my brethern. I could care less if they are, traditional, modern, atypical, contemporary, ancient, new, solid ,tartan, black, white, gay, straight, regimental, or wearing underoo's. All that matters to me is that they are FREE.

Corbin, I think you've just stumbled onto something BRILLIANT!

Your comment about Underoos made me leap to Grranimals... and all the questions we've seen about "what shirt or hose goes with this or that tartan?" The answer is obvious, and you've led me to it - Grranimals branding for tartans! Just match the little embroidered lion or tiger or bear (oh my) and you're sure your clothes will make a match!

I had the same reaction to the Tripp kilts thread. yeah, it's ugly, but it looks more like a kilt than those awful Utilikilts do.

I'm not gonna wear one, but good for the kids who do.

Before the Utilikilt evangelists get their pleats in a knot, let me also say, good for you, wearing what you like.

I was the one who wrote about the Tripps Kilts being Ugly, in my eyes it is (and I'm sorry for offending anyone). It's just not my style, there are alot of Kilts out there that I'm not a fan of, but others think they're the best. Good for you, that's the point isn't it? To have different opinions about what Kilts we like, and what to wear with them. If we all thought the same this would be a pretty boring Forum.

It doesn't matter what Kilt you by, and from where. If you love wearing the Kilt and where it with Pride, that's all that matters.

Thanks corbinj for pointing this out. We must stick together, we will always be the minority. I would defend anyone's right to wear a Tripp, UK, FK, whatever else they are you have to admit, that the contemporary kilts out there are kilts first and foremost. We have enough people trying to tell us what to wear without turning on each other for being different.

No, I don't have to admit that. I personally don't believe that most of these contemporary garments are kilts and I know I am not the only one.

On this I agree, but we must understand that there are differences and that not everyone is going to like everything else. People have many reasons for wearing kilts and kilt like garments and they are not all going to agree at any one time.

I didn't care much for solid contemporary kilts at first. I have since been converted.

Go on... I dare ye. Call it a skirt.
