I have never worn a kilt on my bike, and I would not. I just dont trust other drivers enough to do it, and road rash, even a mild case hurts. I know there are others on this forum who have, but I haven't, I dont ride in shorts either and it was about 15 yrs of riding before I rode my motorcycle without my leather jacket on.

Thats me though I think you should do what you want, just saying that I wouldn't.

Life is full of regrets so if you want to wear your kilt while driving into school then do so, I think it would be considered fairly cool by your schoolmates. It should be an amazing feeling riding your bike while kilted, but make sure you are safe.

I don't ride in anything but full leathers. All Gear, All The Time. So I would say for me, no.

However it also doesn't seem all that practical, unless you're going to velcro the thing to your legs...

I'll go as low as denim for a short ride out of traffic... but typically leather. Never shorts. Never without gloves. Never short sleeves.

I did hear of one gent (whom I don't remember - if you're out there, sorry!) who somehow tucks his kilt into his leather pants...

As for me, I'd just as soon do the "parking lot overwrap leathers off" thing when I arrive at my destination (with all my skin still on my body where it belongs).

Of course, you could always TRY the "chaps over kilt" thing... and if you have UK with the modesty snaps that might just be enough. (Or if you tuck the apron really well.)

Good luck, and send us some piccies (unless there's a lot of blood)!

I have ridden a Motorcycle and have been licensed to do so for 35 years. On my 70's sportbike it was possible to ride with a kilt and I have done it. My current bike is a cruiser style and it doesn't lend itself well for tucking my kilt in.
I always ride wearing gloves no matter what the weather. sturdy footwear. Almost always ride wearing long pants or riding gear.
It's the short hauls near home that seem to be where one is most prone to an incident that is not condusive to ones health.
Basically don't do anything or wear anything that may distract you from the task at hand....meaning make sure you are safe! Watch out for the other person. Always look for an escape.
If you choose to wear a kilt, try it out in a safe environment first.

Motorcycles? No. I ride a Vespa in a kilt with no problem. I would guess you'ld just do tuck like as if you were on a horse in a kilt.

Sure! By all means, go right ahead and wear a kilt ...

... OVER a good sturdy pair of jeans. Or better still, leathers.

I worked in a bike shop for 6 years and one story stands out to this day. A customer was in telling about his harrowing adventure. It seems he was in a serious accident and wasn't wearing protective gear. He had bad road rash and some broken bones (but not severe). He said they couldn't set the bone because his road rash was so bad, so they waited until his skin healed, then rebroke and reset the bone.

I also saw my employer hit a deer and fly off his bike at 90 mph, slide down the road for 50 yards with absolutely NO road rash because he was wearing good gear.

These incidents were enough to convince me to wear gear every time I ride.
Like McMurdo said, "I just dont trust other drivers enough".

    Your mileage may vary.
