Two new comments and a standard
I went grocery shopping today, and as I'm walking into the store a guy coming out looks at my kilt and says "There's a sign of good weather." I guess he was one of those who think that kilts are warm weather only, but the phrasing was new.
Then it the produce section a woman looked at me as I walked by and exclaimed "You're wearing a skirt!" I was in too good a mood from the first comment, so I ignored that and kept going. I stopped ten feet away from her to get some apples, so she tried another tactic - "What nationality are you?" I looked up and said "American." I swear, not only did the little wheel in her mind stop turning, but you could hear the hamster fall off!
She tries to recover, and comes over with "I like your skirt." I lean towards her and say "Thank you, (and then stage whispering behind my raised hand) but it's called a kilt."
"Oh ... I like your kilt, but why are you wearing it?"
[I'm having way too much fun at this point.]
"Why not?"
That just stopped her. Before she could say anything else, I explained at that point that I am Scottish-American, and I wear the kilt to honor my heritage. That appeared to make sense to her: "Okay ... [here comes the good part] ... but is that legal to do in public?"
The only reply I could come up with was "Yes, yes it is," and walk away before I broke out laughing.
The third comment was in the from the woman behind me in the checkout line. First she said "I see you're in a kilt." I was checking out, so I just replied yes. "And you have a sporran too."
I could have simply replied yes, but I was still in too good a mood from the last woman, so
"Well yes, I have to have a sporran."
She thought about that, and asked "Why do you need a sporran?"
I mimed putting my hand in a pants pocket, and said "I have no pockets."
It made her and the checkout girl smile.

That is a great story, and well-told, Wompet. I just love it - "Is that legal to do in public?"

ROTFLMAO "is that legal..."!!! Oh my sides.
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

As I narrated the story to my wife, "please don't tell me she's blonde is she?"

Brings new light to "I'm having so much fun, it should be illegal!"
