Long time no post!

I was wondering if any of you knew anything about Ebay seller 2007shakuntla, the seller on this Prince Charlie Jacket and vest. I'm looking to pick up a PCJ for a wedding I'm going to in June.

He doesn't have a lot of feedback. What he has is good, though. He DOES have positive feedback on that exact same item.

I would be very careful about ordering from a place that uses photos from other peoples websites and lists their kilts as made from 16 oz. Poly/Viscous.

It would be my guess that you will get a jacket from the Sider Bros. of Pakistan. Acrylic, not P/V and the jackets I have seen from them seem to me to have a gunny sack like hang.

I'm not saying I know this for sure. It is just my guess from the text and "feel" of the site to me. I get offers from Pakistan weekly. The wording is very similar.
Heck, buy direct. The Sider Bros. will sell you their Prince Charlie like jacket and vest for $75.00usd and a kilt for $25.00usd. Delivery included.

You can always email them and ask them directly about your concerns. They will probably tell the truth, if you ask the questions in ways so that they can't give you an ambiguous answer. My experience is that Ebay sellers will rarely lie directly, although they may not be as candid as one would like. Some try to put as nice a face on their products as they can, e.g., "imported" rather than "made in Pakistan."

If they tell you an out and out lie, and you purchase the product, if you then confront them with it, they will likely accept the return of the product rather than face the risk of negative feedback. So, bald-faced lies are rare, in my experience, though hedging about the truth is not. It really helps to ask as many detailed questions as you feel you need to. If they do not respond, that will tell you something.

Who's photo's are they using? and do you know it is with out permission? Copyright violation is a crime, randomly accusing one is a serious charge.

I've had good experience with bidding on used PC's. A lot of people will buy them for a wedding then never wear them again. You can usually get them for a fair price if you just keep your eyes peeled.
I have a Moss Bros Prince charlie and waistcoat that I got for £50 (About $90, I think.) Really good condition.
I've now grown out of it and am thinkig of selling it on here, but it's a really small size.
Just keep looking on Ebay for anything that might be coming from a person rather than a store.

Something that's coming up with increasing frequency is people copying the photo and text of a bona fide bagpipe ad and re-listing it on EBay, often with literally dozens of positive feedbacks in their profile. Obviously, they have no intention of ever sending you the pipes they don't have to start with; it's a fraud that's essentially risk-free for the perp across international borders.
My best friend had his EBay account hacked, and someone was listing stuff under his profile...between the increasing fraud and the outright Pakistani trash that's flooded EBay, you should think of it like gambling, and never bid more than you're willing to loose outright. Caveat emptor in spades!

I have a Pakistani PC which I use for less formal formal do's (if that's not an oxymoron!) Only problem with it is that one of the sleeve buttons was sewn through the lining, creating a crease in the sleeve. 10 min fixed the problem & it wears & hangs beautifully. Other side of the coin is I've seen a pakistani-made ancient Johnston kilt, & to say it's EXTREMELY bright is an understatement! The colours are nowhere near close, & it would have been more at home in a circus. They offered to get it right if the guy who owns it would send them his original for them to copy. Needless to say he didn't.

Bottom line: there are some reasonable replicas coming out of Pakistan, but you basically need to know who to buy off & who to avoid. I'd go with an ex-rental as advised above unless you've REALLY done your homework.
