That is on the Chieftain's CD "Down the Old Plank Road", which came out back in 2003 -- they have a second CD now, "Further Down the Old Plank Road". Both show the distinct links between Scots & Irish music with traditional Appalachian/Bluegrrass music.

These are both great albums and anyone who likes either traditional Irish music or the American mountain music should take a listen.
I especially liked Alison Krauss doing Molly Ban. Although it is a tragic song, her performance is hauntingly beautiful.
About Earl Scruggs, he is credited with developing his own unique method of banjo playing, that was later adopted by other artists. Interestingly enough, he developed this style because he couldn't master the accepted style of the time.

Thanks! I love the Chieftains and especially Earl! Earl Scruggs is the inspiration of the most prominent banjo players today!

If you like Alison Krauss's version of "Molly Ban", the Dillards, who are best remembered as the Darlings on The Andy Griffith Show, do a variant entitled "Polly Vaughn" on their album "There is a Time".

That's an awesome clip! Earl is hands down one of the best banjo players on the planet and is a good source of inspiration for beginning banjo players, like myself .

The Chieftans also did a bang up job with, of all people, Mick Jagger on "Long Black Veil" on the disc of the same name.
