    My Dad's baby quilt

I aired my Dad's baby quilt out today. It was made by my Nano ca. 1925.
I consider it a real piece of art and history. Its covered by little farm boys.

That is nice... I'm refering my momster, a quilter, to this URL. I think I'm one of the few people of my generation (or younger) who can say he grew up playing under a quilt frame.

My moms reminds me that the little guy on the squares is called "Overall Bill," or "Overall Sam," depending on to whom one speaks. He's the male counter-part of Sunbonnet Sue.

She agrees that you have a fine heirloom there, a quilt to be proud of.

My Nano made a "Sunbonnet Sue" quilt for my Dad's older sister. My sister now has the quilt, I believe it was made ca.1918.

Thanks MacDougall for the names of the quilts!

That sounds beautiful, too. If you had pictures to post, I'm sure my mom would be interested.

Those are beautiful, Mr. White, and I hope that your sons recognize what a treasure they are. In this day of things being made by anonymous faces over the ocean, or even by machines, it is a rare and wonderful thing to have a work of functional art that you can point to with pride and say, "my relation made this just for me."

I suspect that's also one of the appeals of the kilt, though in most cases, it's not our relations that make them for us.
