    Shoe/Boot Help

    Ok, here it goes,

I am a newbie, well to this at least. I had a few questions bout casual kilt outfit footwear. I am a MacNicol. The tartan is gorgeous, there are so many nice colors, it would seem that many different foot prisons could go with it (well at least the rest is free!). I also happen to be a footwear whore, and you would think there would be endless combo options. Yet still, my anal retentive nature gets the best of me. I know that the idea of the casual kilt outfit is to be creative, within reason. I would hope some of the elders will be able to help with this one (ergo Matt Newsome). I am going to the grandfather games in a day or two, and a endless stream of responses would be GREATLY appreciated

    Yours In freedom,

    MacStig

for casual, Black or Brown hiking boots, hose down, combat boots, hose up or down (yes, I've seen the pix of scottish soldiers in boots, hose up, with flashes). try to have similar colors between shoes, belts, and sporran.

For an contemporary kilt, Keens and that ilk are the 21st century gillie brogue

Where 4 Scotsmen gather there'll usually be a fifth.

"Deck Shoes" look particularly nice with hose up and flashes (IMO) for day wear. If you're looking for boots: a pair of work boots with hose down look super too. Here are a couple of the different style shoes I wear with day wear.

    Steve Madden Novo
    Steve Madden Eclypse
    Casual Oxfords

For Dress/Formal I've never done the Ghillie Brogue thing. But, I wear these instead:

    Doc Marten Wingtips

First of all: a warm welcome to the rabble from northern Norway!

Though not an "elder", my clear choice for casual wear that works every time: black 8-hole Doc Martens (or similar)

Grandfather games? I guess everything is relative - a good friend of mine became a grandfather at 35 (!)

Your reference to foot prison makes me want to remind you that there's no rule against wearing sandals (well, without socks).

If you have a pre-1780s attitude to tradition, most had no shoes. Post 1780s show up in a recent thread, check it out.

I wear Keen sandals most of the time, cooler weather have Doc boots, formal has Doc shoes (company has Docs on my safety boot allowance. Yes, kilt footwear is part of my benefit package.)

Thanks, keep them coming, and those doc wingtips, well i am a bit of a doc collector, and they have not had the black leather for a few months now, and the oxblood (which i wanted very much so) for even longer. I have a pair of black standards, brown and such, and light brown suede/nubuck wingtips (with the yellow stitching, they are soooo pretty), all of them docs. I was also wondering bout the trainers and jumper look with the kilt. Of course only with black low top socks! Let me know what you think!!

and fir those of you that like the keen brand sandal, this is the company that martin keen made when he did not like the way keen was going with their products, they beat keen by a longshot, but you have to like the way they look, just like those damn croc things!
