    Art on the Rocks

My Lady and I went to the Art on the Rocks art faire at Presque Isle park here in Marquette today. Lots of vendors, lots of potters this year. There was a really neat booth that had old fashioned wooden toys. And, of course, Jilly the Jilbert's Dairy cow:

They have a cow about twice that size outside the dairy on US-41 in Marquette.

You can walk out onto the breakwall from Preque Isle park, one of two in Marquette. I'm not sure how long it is, but I'd guess aroung 150 yards from beach to light, about half concrete and half piled stone.

Me out on the stone section:

Cassie on the concrete section. I'm on the lower level (it's got a central ridge that slants down to a flat space on either side):

The Superior Dome can be seen in the background, it's the largest wooden dome in the world. It's amazing to see waves in a storm go right over the breakwall and not even touch it. My grandpa and his buddies raced the waves on their bikes after the wall was built. I consider myself lucky to be alive.

    Cheers,
    Nick

Sounds like a fun time. And nice pictures. Wish I could have been there.

I was at Art on the Rocks on Sunday, and came up to this one artists booth, near the beginning of the rows of vendors and she said, "Why ALL the kilts?" I asked her what she meant, and she said,"I haven't seen so many kilts since we left Milwaukee (where they are from), I saw another guy yesterday, and you, and one other!"

I know the one yesterday was Nick who started this thread, and the other had longer hair, maybe Nick knows him. I just told her they are comfortable and she agreed and said that they are probably cool, as she looked at the bottom edge of my kilt and nodded.

I had one girl compliment my kilt and gave me a high five after some talk about the tartan, although she had no clue what any of the tartan names meant, but at least she didn't say plaid. haha Then my wife who was with me, said, "She was sure strange." I didn't think so, but anyway....

You don't have to be Scottish to be comfortable!

Didn't see anyone else in a kilt while I was there. Did see a guy in a UK Workman's last year. Kilts are certainly represented in Marquette! (Not bad for a small midwest town)

Aaaah how I miss Presque Isle Park! Every city should have something like that!

Great pics. Hope you guys had fun.

I don't think any of the kilted guys I know were up there for a least a month, so I'm no help.
