    Edinburgh festival

For those of you familiar with Edinburgh here is the Royal Mile when the festival is on looking down from the castle end -

And here it is looking up the other way -

And here are a group with a piper busking. Sorry about the quality but it was through a bus window. Afficionados will recognise Hector Russell's kilt shop beside them -

We get our city back at the end of the month. Notice the total lack of kilts.

Difficult to tell with the reflection but the piper could be wearing the Braveheart tartan.

I can almost see Moira peeking out through the windows of Hector Russell!

Looks a busy place to be in August, really must schedule a trip for festival time as I have never been in Auld Reekie at that time of year!

I thought August was when you had a good chance of seeing loads of kilts about too!

    But great pics Phil!

I saw the group earlier and they were wearing great kilts in some nondescript brown cloth. Wouldn't recognise it though, sorry.

I can't see any kilts other than those worn by Albannach (the band). Mike can tell you what tartan they wear, it's been posted on the board before, but my memory isn't as good as it used to be. I believe that they are from Edinborough. Here is a link to their website if you are interested.

Jerry, they wear the Finlaggan tartan. And they call Glasgow home.

Good pics, Phil, at least you got some blue sky.
Doesn't feel like that time of year already.
I visited Edinburgh during festival season last year and managed to photograph a few kilts and saw quite a lot of kilts being worn out and about, as shown in this old thread from 2006:-

I think those are the sunniest pics I've ever seen of Edinburgh. I don't remember that kind of sunshine in my childhood.

The reason? I'm not there. It seems every time I visit, it is a dreich day.

But doesn't St. Giles' look good in the sunshine?

Yes it really brings out the colours in the stone.

At this rate my next Edinburgh trip will be October and I will be taking my trusty Jenners umbrella with me!

My wife and I were there last Friday. The Tattoo performances were great, but the weather was about 50 degrees fahrenheit with a 30-40 mph strong wind. The fireworks didn't go up, they went sideways!

Other than myself, I saw maybe 3 other kilties, not counting the sales clerks in the kilt shops. In a museum in Glasgow, 4 young ladies (14-15 years maybe)from Spain, asked if they could take pictures of me. I was the only kilted gentleman they had seen! Such a pity.
