Need help AGAIN

O.K. as you can tell by my name, I am a Mason. I am a 32 degree also with the Scottish Rite. We meet once a month on the second Monday. As an officer in line we wear tuxs with white dinner jackets.

I just got three new 160z. kilts from Frugal Corner, tonight I was thinking about wearing is... What do you think?????

It's the Pride of Scotland I just got Saturday from Frugal Corner with a jacket I picked up at a local uniform store for $5.00. I have wore it before to a York Rite meeting with my McQueen tank and Red bowtie.

The sporran is also new, I have not wore it yet. But recieved it several week ago from Frugal Corner.

Personally, it's not a good match to my eye. Too many colors happening that don't go together.

Do you have a solid black kilt? Your white jacket is an idea I've toyed with for a while where you are basically just swapping out black tux pants for a black kilt with black hose. You could put some nickel or pewter buttons on the jacket and cuffs and maybe find some flashes to go with one of the colors in your hat.

I do not have a solid black kilt right now... But Frugal Corner, just started carrying them. I have told Mark at FC as soon as he gets one in my size I want it... I was also thinking about if it is the right black to add a SATIN stripe down the side, like tux pants have. I think that would be really cool!!

I would add the satin stripe down the side of the apron, like the Leatherneck Pipes and Drums did with their blood stripe. That would look sharp I think.

As to the outfit above, I like it. I would think it would be fine, as long as your brothers didn't object.

I think that you should change your kilt hose to either black or a darker color of the tartan. I don't have anything against white kilt hose but with the white shirt and the white jacket it is just too much white. Cavscout mentioned a solid black kilt above. What I think he is getting at is the balance of the white shirt and white dinner jacket with the solid black pants. The reason that formal outfit works is the nice balance of dark and light. You are introducing not only the tartan but more white into the mix. I think black formal kilt hose might help with the balance. I would also change out the cumberbund for a dress belt.

I'm with Jamie there, the cumberbund was bothering me a bit as well.

Shriner, Rather than put the satin stripe on the side of the leg, consider putting it down the apron edge. Visually it's a more appropriate location. If it were on the side, my eye would be expecting to see a stripe on every pleat

Otherwise I'd leave the black kilt as is.

I've just always really liked the Humphrey Bogart Tux look and believe it will translate well into a kilt.

Edit: I like the jacket open rather than fastened also

I do have a pair of black kilt hose and think that would be a good idea. I will try the belt and see.

Black hose, and lose the cumberbum. I treat cumberbums as saxon attire.

I think it looks great, I'd go just like that. I just ordered a 13oz, 8 yard kilt in the Pride of Scotland tartan - though the kilt maker has informed me that the tartan's name has changed to Scotland Forever. That white jacket and hose could go with any tartan I think.
