    XMTS Motto

This great online community has much to boast of. Our membership includes athletes, dancers, scholars, kilt makers, pipers, drummers, craftsmen, and a myriad of other talented and courteous individuals. To represent this forum we have a handsome badge and even our own tartan.

It has been suggested in another Thread that we should adopt a motto to represent this great place and all our members who have made it such.

The phrase: “By Choice, Not Blood” , which in Latin would be “Per electum, non consanguinitam" has seemed popular.

This is now put to the vote before our memebership.

Should we adopt this as the Motto for X Marks the Scot.com ?

    Cheers

    Jamie

How about "ad hoc chosen by us" ?
Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?

    Typo

The English version of the motto should actually be "By Choice, Not Blood"

    Thanks for noticing Jake!

    Cheers

I'm not sure. 'Choice' to me sounds like a flimsy commitment. Can't think of alternatives at the moment, but 'Allegiance' is in my head. 'Through Allegiance, Not Blood.'

I don't see how allegiance can enter into it, we are in X Marks my choice and there is no Chief to swear allegiance to. We are regularly asked to give allegiance to the rules but that is to the rules of the site.

The camaraderie we have with each other in the site that has brought us together and formed friendships provides a form of personal allegiance which goes beyond any feeling of mere duty.

    I'll humbly suggest an alternate

    By Choice, or By Blood

    or vice versa

Don't mean to nit pick but the motto almost seems to exclude those with a heritage.

How about: "By Choice or By Blood"?

Or: "By Choice and By Blood"?

I can see where someone unfamiliar with our community could misinterpret it that way, but think the "By Choice, Not Blood" captures the X Marks ideal of inclusion. That is, one may be a member of a traditional clan by circumstances of birth, but all may choose to participate in our merry rabble.

    Best regards,

    Jake
