There Are Always 2% Who Don't Get The Word

Was researching info on the Gillis family, my great great grandmother was Mary Gillis who was born in Nova Scotia in the 1830s.

I knew Gillis was a derivation of the Gillies clan, but I'd never realized that the Gillies were a sept of the MacPherson clan...

I once dated a MacPherson lass in college...but one night on a double date with a fraternity brother and his girlfriend both couples became angry with their mate and we switched dates. My fraternity brother and the MacPherson lass wound up getting married...and still were last I heard.

Anyhow...now it looks like I'm gonna be needing a kilt in the MacPherson tartan since the only Gillis tartan was computer designed and to my knowledge has never been woven. And yes, I know there are a bunch of Gillies tartans...just have to pick my favorite from them and the MacPherson tartans. I suspect the later will be easier to find in a casual tartan kilt.

Another door to my wallet opens...

You know Rocky has the MacPherson modern and the MacPherson hunting tartan he recently added right? Sorry sorry sorry...

Oh, and something else jumped out at me. Did you know that your buddy, Kathy Lare, is a member of Clan MacPherson?

I've been talking to Pete at Canadian Casual Kilts about a MacPherson red, as my Uncle is a MacPherson, you might want to get in touch with him I know for a fact that he has some.

    Thanks Bradley,

Didn't know that about Kathy Lare...clan cousins.

Been eyeballing the MacPherson hunting on Rocky's site...semi-trad...hmmmm

I always figured, never trusting surname/clan lists, that Gillis was a job title name, as in Golly the Ghillie.

Anyway, it's as good an excuse as any to get a new kilt, so go for it (like you need my permission).

Todd will probably correct me anyway.

    No, it will be me!

Gillis and Gillies are from Mac Gill'Iosa (pronounced MAC GILL-IS-A) meaning "son of the servant of Jesus."

Though you're partly right, Ghille does come from Gille.

    Thanks Herman,

I got the sense that it was much nicer eyeballed in person than on a monitor. Of course most are, but just got that "feeling"....the one that drives my addiction to kilts....a beautiful tartan on the swish....
