No.82 in the Kilt Kollection
On Sunday, I was able to pick up kilt No.82 in my Kollection - the Weathered Red Gordon by Geoffrey (Tailor) of Edinburgh, and it is a stunner!
This superb traditional kilt is in 16oz Strome by Lochcarron and has the largest sett I think I have ever seen: almost 15 inches which, to my mind, gives the kilt an unusual appearance, one that I did not notice until I saw my own photos. Being 'weathered', the colours (shades of terracotta red, steely blue-greys, milk-and-a-dash brown, and black) are pale and muted - so beautiful. Of course, the kilt itself, lovingly tailored by Liz in the G(T) workrooms above the High Street shop, is a work of art. The pleats, with a 1" reveal, have an average depth of 3.75" making it truly a dream to wear.
So, to the photos:
...... and in a more casual mode:
Perhaps like most of us, I tend to fall madly in love with every new kilt (!), but I have to say that this one is likely to remain a 'first choice' for a very long time to come!
[PS: my apologies if you read this identical review (maybe with different photos) elsewhere, but my writings are now syndicated!!!]

What a lovely tartan it is Ham, a stunner indeed. I really must get some weathered tartans into my own meager collection, as it stands I have to go down to the post office as there is a package there for me from Wales I think.
Congratulations on #82 Ham I can see why it will be a favourite for some time to come.

Great looking kilt. That sett is most unusual but looks good.

I love the large sett on Gordon kilts, and this one is especially great. Beautiful choice.

Hi McG,
Yes, I do collect kilts - but only those that have been tailored for me and others that I have bought off-the-peg in my size. All my kilts I bought to wear, not just to keep for the sake of collecting another kilt! When I pop my clogs (nothing scheduled yet!), the entire kollection of kilts, jackets, accessories, etc. will be used to form the basis of an official Kilt Museum in Edinburgh.

LOL - there will be no garage sales!
- Whit size is yer wardrobe?
The kilts hang on three x 6ft wheeled garment rails and in a 5ft wardrobe in my guest room, and in my room all my jackets and doublets together with more kilts occupy two x 5ft wardrobes. A four drawer chest of drawers is home to my kilt hose, sporrans, sgian dubhs and flashes.

Sure, I have my favourites (but I am not naming them). What I choose to wear depends upon my mood, where I am going, what I am doing - and always, the suitability to the occasion!
