I didn't wear a kilt all weekend
This weekend, starting on Friday morning, I didn't wear any kilts.
Why?
......Because while the Luminous Joan is just fine with my kilt-wearing habit, she really would prefer seeing me in pants. Often when I wear pants she'll say something like..."I haven't seen you in blue jeans for so long!".
It was her birthday. It's not going to KILL me to strap on a pair of trousers to go out to dinner with her on Friday night, or to go hiking with her on Saturday, or for dinner on Saturday night, or to hang around the house with her on Sunday and build that trellis for her rhododendrons. So I did. I knew she'd appreciate it, and she did. It's the least I can do, on her 50th birthday, for the woman I gladly pledged to spend my life with all those years ago.
However, I'm back at work today, and you can bet your life I've got tartan strapped 'round me bum!

Well done Alan on a considerable sacrifice. You'd hope after all the years you've been married though that by now she'd be beginning to lose that insecurity that some kilties' wives seem to have - an anxiety that when their man wears his kilt he might be tempted by all the attention he gets from other women.

Yes, you seem to have reached true kilt freedom. To wear it or not, is not the question. To be able to choose is true kilt freedom.

My thoughts, exactly.
I don't HAVE to wear a kilt to prove anything. The days of having to prove anything kilt-wise are over. I can wear it when I want to, and I can choose NOT to wear it when I want to.
Sometimes I will choose not to wear a kilt for my own reasons, or for reasons which involve other people. I COULD have worn a kilt all weekend and Joan would not have raised a fuss. But I CHOSE not to, becasue I know she would be just a little bit happier seeing me in blue jeans than in a kilt.

I sat here in my cargo style grape smugglers patting myself on the back for having reached the point where I dhave gotten past the point of having to prove anything and wearing whatever. Now I just feel like a follower.
But if I have to follow somebody, I could have done worse. Good on you for being considerate of the most important person in your world.
This has to be a prime example of wearing p*nts as good kiltsmanship.
