Welding, Scotch, Chocolate, Dogs and Pipes
I was at home hunting an elusive kilt deal on ebay.uk when a minute before the auction ended I got a call from Kiltedfirepiper. I was a little distracted but got my final bid in before he asked me for the famous "big favor". It seems he was welding the border fence today when he got a nice molten piece of welding slag in his ear. So instead of hours in the ER I saw him at my office to see the extent of the damage. Good news! no real damage, I've seen worse from careless Q-tipping.
How much does a personnal after hours holiday consultation cost? The answer is the bottle on the left.

That's KFP, my dog Penny who thinks he's O.K. the payola Laphroaig 10 y.o. left and a bottle of Glenmorangie, Port Wood Finish 12 y.o. I picked up for our evening tasting. Some Dove 63% Cacao extra dark. The chocolate was on my office desk when we went to my office. It was a gift from a lady I saw on Wednesday. This was shaping up to be a good day.
So it was a perfect eighty degree evening and KFP asked to see my pipes. They haven't been playing in a while, were leaking too much and need to be re-hemped. He had his in his truck and proceeded to entertain the neighbors horses that came to the back fence to see what was up.

I won the auction too. And yesterday I got my A Hay Welsh Dragon Sporran. Awesome!

Good news on the auction because by the pictures KFP is wearing *gasp* pants! ![](http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q191/ccga3359/faint.gif)
As for our health care in Canada if I needed to see my private practitioner/buddy then it would only cost me a beer but I'd have to wait months to see him.

That was funny, my daughter just asked why I was laughing. It reminded me of when I saw a retired Canadian Military guy a few years ago and it took over a year for me to receive payment for the services. My office manager probably billed it three of four times and wrote numerous letters, then they paid me in Canadian dollars. I'd have been better off taking the beer at the time of service.

Glad to hear about the lack of serious damage, but that bottle of Laphroaig is awful stuff. You should immediately ship it to me for proper disposal...

While at the Liquor store, there was a pretty lady buying herself a bottle of Glenlivet. Nothing wrong with that but she was a little confused about single malts. Glenlivet was all she had ever tried. We suggested a few to her to expand her experience. While in line she changed her mind and ended up with the Laphroaig. Maybe she'll thank us later.

Got to love that weld slag. I've got a couple of small third degree burn scars, all part of the trade. (Remove rings always, almost lost a finger.)
You never know where that stuff is going to go. It's one of the things that convinced me to grow a beard in my early days. Burning hair smells better than burning flesh, simply because it isn't.
Some of my co-workers have had peculiar burns in other parts of their body as the slag rolls down the inside of their shirt and settles someplace delicate.
There's a lesson there, and a reason for saying "once burnt, twice shy".

A chunk got down in my glove and sat there before I realized just what was going on. My boss sent me to the hospital. While stopped at a light on the way, Ipulled out my trusty swiss army knife and dug out the chunk, turned around and went back to work. Now I Duct tape the gauntlets of the gloves.
