Chicago 10/27...location?
Since there seems to be a surge in new Xsmarksers from the Chicago area, I will dare to try to get a kilt afternoon going for Saturday, October 27.
Since we haven't really had an event yet, I figger that a Saturday afternoon would be a little more flexible than an evening. Looks like we have a good smattering of members from the suburbs and I'm thinking that it might be easier for them to get back and forth during the afternoon and early evening than it would be at night. Thus, lunch till whenever might be best.
So I propose one of two locations:
The Duke of Perth, 2913 N Clark St.
http://dukeofperth.com/
or
Grace O'Malley's, 1416 South Michigan Ave.

I personally lean toward The Duke as they have a big Whisky menu.
In fairness, I have eaten at Grace's and the food was quite all right and I have not yet had the pleasure of eating at The Duke's...though I fancy the "Ghillie's Meatloaf".
Both places are relatively central for the area and parking will be tough at either one...Grace's is just on the South end of the Loop and the Duke's is not-so-far North...certainly not even as far as Wrigley Field.
Opinions, gents? I will valiantly volunteer to personally check out either venue beforehand to see to it that they will happily welcome kilted individuals. I did ask that of the manager at Grace's when I was there last and she said "sure...no problem".
Let's see a show of hands...

I might be up for it. My first kilt should arrive this week. I'd prefer the north side site, or might I suggest the Celtic Knot Pub in Evanston. The parking is better.

Granted, I'm not from Chicago, but I have eaten at the Celtic Knot, and it was very good! The night I was in there they had live celtic music!!
I'm glad to see a Chicago event for our Global Kilt Night/Day!!!

Well, as I mentioned, I haven't had a chance to check out The Duke of Perth...the one time I got there was a Monday afternoon and that's the only day that they're closed until five in the evening.
But it looks like I will have a chance to case the joint tomorrow (Saturday the 13th). I'll be going downtown bright and too damn early to help collect the migratory birds fly into buildings downtown (how I get roped into these things, I don't know) and then have to drop my daughter off at a class and then meet up with an old friend from college to hang out some. I suggested that we have lunch at The Duke so I could assure myself that it is a joint of adequately high quality as I would not want to even suggest that the Kilted Brethren assemble and take refreshments in some cheesy low dive.
Hey, humor me, this is the line that I'm giving my wife so play along, eh?
And if she calls, tell her I was with you all the time.

Impromptu Kilt Night
Hi! I am in town for a few days, and was planning on going to the Celtic Knot tonight (Tuesday, 11/6) for Celtic Music, dinner, and beer. I brought my Black Watch, so plan on wearing it.

I'm up for the Celtic Knot tonight. What time would be good for you? I live about 3-4 miles south on the far north side of Chicago. (Captain Karrot - I pm'd you). Anyone else interested?

They lean towards Irish, but they had a grand celebration for Robby Burns birthday last year.

What! no other Chicagoans interested? My nephew is at Northwestern and is, occasionally kilted. I could probably talk him into attending.

I can do it.
I'd be up for a Duke of Perth get-together.

I think I can make it. I used to live right down the street from the Duke of Perth. Good pub fair, good beer and whiskey. I have a party to go to that night, but i am pretty sure I would be able to make it. If you want Evanston Tommy Nevins is always a good place too. I am in the Western Burbs but I am willing to meet where ever. Sean
