Review of Frugal Corner Custom Kilt...
After many delays and missed communications I finally got my Black Watch custom kilt that I ordered back in June. It was worth the wait. It is a 16 oz acrylic and it looks great. It fits prefectally and really hangs nice. I wish I could get wool but as my wife is seriously allergic to wool I will stay with acrylic.
The bottom line is with all of the effort put forth by the people at FC to try to make sure I had a kilt for vacation and to get me my kilt I would order from them again!!!
I will post pics in the next few days of it and of my new SWK thrifty in Scottish National...

Off topic but curious. Does marino wool cause the same reactions to thiose with allergies?

I have a slight allergy to raw wools but I don't seem to have the same reactions to worsted wools. I don't know why this is, but we have some raw wool throws that I can't have next to me but I can wear my heavyweight wool kilt with no problems. Weird skin I guess!

I wonder if the allergy is to the wool or the lanolin/oils in the raw wool. Worsted and processed wools have many of the oils removed.

I would agree. I have learned how it's cats' saliva which causes allergies, and not the hair itself. so probably same situation with sheep wool.

Not sure but I feel that if I have to stick with acrylic to make my wife happy then it is a workable compromise.

Am not certain, but I think the allergy factor applies whether Merino or other.

With wool allergies it can be the breed of sheep, the lanolin, dies, processing chemicals etc. There is no way to know for sure without doing a skin test. I think the reason people think Merino wool is safe from allergies is it tends to be less itchy than other wool. It makes it more comfortable for some people but no less chance of being allergic to it.

taxdragon, why did you choose acrylic over PV for a custom kilt?

I'm also interested in a 16 oz. custom kilt from FC. How do you find the pleated area in the small of your back? Overly thick and bulky, or comfortable?
Thanks!
