Proposal: NorCal X-Marks Hike
OK, NorCal Rabble, anybody up for a winter hike? Say, perhaps around Angel Island?
Proposed date; Saturday December 8th, we meet in Tiburon at the Ferry Dock at 10:30, ride the Ferry over to the Island and hike around the cirumference, and then up to the top of Mount Livermore. This would be more like an "active stroll" though it's a bit of a huff and puff up the island to the top. It costs a few dollars to ride the ferry, but everywhere you turn you see spectacular views of the Bay and the surrounding communities. There are fifty spots along the road to stop for lunch, and lots of Island History as well as some good local geology are available to look at. It takes about 90-100 minutes of medium-energetic stolling to circle the island, mostly on the flat.
An alternative might be Montara Mountain, near Pacifica/Burlingame....but be prepared for a *serious* lung busting climb to the top of the mountain. Parsts of the road/fire trail are incredibly steep, but the views of the Pacific Coast from the climb are wonderful.
A third alternative could be Huddart Park in the hills behind Redwood City...Woodside. This is a good place for little kids, 'cause there's a grassy picnic are, and several picnic areas under the trees (if it rains) . The hike goes though the redwoods. It's about a mile or so to a creek, which should be running in the winter, and there will be bugs and beetles and worms and salamanders and cool "stuff". Tired little ones can turn around at that point while the more energetic can do a longer loop, coming back to the picnic area.
Anybody interested?

I love a party! - I just can't organize one to save my life. Any of the three itineraries sounds great. Angel Island is on my list of "Places Never Been, But Want To."

Alan,
It sounds like this outing it just the ticket. Unfortunately we're on the wrong coast so I guess this post is not very helpful. Hope this comes off, it sounds like fun.

I'm working that day, but I give my dear husband permission to go, as long as he can figure out something to do with the children.
Be well,
