    nicer kilt choice

    Hey, gang!

I'm looking for a kilt that I can wear in lieu of slacks like Dockers, but in Armstrong tartan. I don't really want to feel like I have so much kilt I have to wear a PC with it. I've looked at the Sportkilt line, and am not convinced that's nice enough. I don't really want to go the way of tank, as I'd rather not face the dry-cleaners any more often than I must.

Folks like Stillwater have nice products (and an agreeable price range), but they don't offer their line in my tartan.

    Any other constructive ideas?

How about USAKilts or Canadian Casual Kilts it will cost more than a Stillwater but it will be made for you. I have a USA Kilt and 3 Canadian Casual Kilts and would recommend both companies to anyone.

The both above company specialize in Poly viscous with teflon coating. DO NOT dry clean, machine wash. Both offer 5 yard casual quite cool in the summer better than jeans in the winter.

I looked at USAKilts, but haven't see anything in their listings that includes the Armstrong tartan--at least not for under $250...

I just checked Canadian Casual Kilts list and Armstrong is not on it however if you email Peter I am sure that he could get it for you, not sure whether or not it would be available in PV but you could ask.

I'd check with Rocky at USAK about the availability of Armstrong in PV. It may be that it's around, just not normally carried by him. Or it may be that you'd have to get 19 cousins to go in with you on an order....

    I'd go for one.

I've been trying to find a casual kilt in Armstrong for awhile now.

I have two Sport Kilts, which mostly I wear around the house, to the pub & grocery store. If you really want Armstrong, that's a possibility. Consider the size/length and whether you want to wear it at the hips or the kilt waist. The SK should be easy to re-hem, or they will make you a custom length.

Consider some other tartan in PV from USAK, CCK. There are some "universal" tartans that I find quite appealing. How about Scottish National? or even Black Watch, Campbell/Argyll, Stewart Hunting... These have similar colors to Armstrong.

Don't neglect Stillwater as a good everyday kilt. Black Watch, Black Stewart are sharp-looking. The SWK standard Hunting McLeod is still being closed out, if you have the right size. That's good looking & similar to your Armstrong colors.

If you get into wool, you can get Armstrong in several forms. A box-pleat from Matt Newsome, a 5-yard from Rocky/Peter, etc... Look around at "casual" kilts from the various retailers.

A USAK semi-trad in a solid color PV is in the $250 range. CCK in denim or other solid color. Freedom Kilt in several solid fabrics, price is going up again...

I ordered a USAK semi-trad as my Sunday go-to-meeting kilt, and have acquired several SK/SWK/etc without spending too much. Now it's time for me to save my pennies for a couple of wool kilts from Rocky and Matt---if Rocky and Pete would just stop coming up with good uses for my disposable cash!!! that's the "nineteen cousins" option, to get a custom weave in PV.
