Ohhh James! (a kilt lifters comeuppance)
I was antiquing today with my dad at the Scott antique market in Atlanta. I was wearing my Gordon Weathered box pleat, black sporran and boots, just casual. I got quite a few positive comments, and one guy made it pretty clear he was available (TBNT). I bought a nice full hide of brown leather, and got to talking with the lady at the booth about kilts. She asked the question, but I kept the secret secret. She got to talking about her late husband and told me this story, to the best of her recollection.
Her husband was at a pretty well-known bar in London called Paddy's (she thinks), drinking with Sean Connery. Sir Sean was in his kilt that day. The owner of the bar came up behind him, lifted the kilt up and hooted, saying "007? I don't think so. More like 003 and a half!"
Connery turned around and decked him.

Well, I hope so too!
As I tell folks we come from a long line of folks who never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

The Power of the Internet
Hey, this thread is famous! It got written up in the Glasgow Herald, or at least the online version. From a column called "The Diary":
Seriously shaken
AND talking of matters Scottish sartorial, we are dircted to the website Xmarksthescot which discusses all things about kilts. A chap in Georgia, America, writes that he was wearing his kilt - "my Gordon weathered box pleat, black sporran and boots, just casual" - while antique hunting in Atlanta when an elderly stall-holder told him that her late husband was once drinking in a famous London bar with Sean Connery. who was in his kilt that day.
A chap came up behind Connery, lifted his kilt and hooted: "007? More like 003 and a half."
"Connery," said the old lady, "turned round and decked him."
Best regards,
Jake

The story is too good to be untrue.

It is true. Even if it didn't happen, it's now the Gospel truth to me! That is pure dead brilliant.

Methinks rather than the owner being so crass, perhaps it was a friend of owner or some other association to the bar. Oh, my, Sir Connery's word could make or break an establishment.
Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?
