    An intro, and a hi!

    Hi all,

I'm currently living in the Phoenix, Az area, I've been here for a few years now. Don't really like the weather but it's fine for now.

I've done the entire highland games circut for quite a number of years. First purely as a spectator, then later as an officer/commissioner for my clan. I still act in that capacity when I can, but there are others that can do that better than I and have more time.

I'm also a piper. I have done the competition band circut as well, playing with grade 3 bands mostly. I'm not too active right now but I plan on getting my lip back in shape soon. At one point, I was competing in grade 2 solos. I might be a grade 4 now, just because I haven't played in some time.

The big reason I found this forum is that I was looking at my kilt the other day and I thougt "What a shame. I have an $800 kilt that I haven't worn in a while." So, I thought I might just wear it every day. I used to work in a very dirty/greasy/oily industry and a kilt wasn't an option at all. However now, I'm in a clean-er industry and thought I could do it now and wanted to feel out others who have made the leap, so to speak.

Anyway, I look forward to getting to know many of you and hope that some of us might me able to go for a brew or 2 here in the PHX area if there's anyone here.

    Cheers,

    Thunderbolt

What a shame. I have an $800 kilt that I haven't worn in a while. So, I thought I might just wear it every day.
I find my more expensive kilts are too good for everyday casual wear.
Although I wear a kilt out and about almost every day, the ones which get the most wearing tend to be the cheaper kilts.

Thunderbolt from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I wear a kilt everyday, and like you do have a kilt or two that cost that much, I do also have other less expensive kilts. I would say if daily kilt wear is your ultimate goal, firstly you have found the right place on the net, secondly you will need more than one kilt, and various accessories. The good thing is that here we do have many sponsors that would be able to help you out in this.

Thanks for the warm welcome all.

Indeed, the kilt is expensive. But, it should be worn, no? What's the purpose of having a kilt and being too afraid to wear it??

Kidding aside, I'm thinking about another kilt anyway. However, it'll be an $800 one too. I love the 18oz wool and can't imagine wearing anything lighter. But it will take some time to get one, of course, due to the cost.

I have no less than 4 sporrans, 2 or 3 sets of flashes, 4 or 5 sets of hose, A couple of belts, a glengarry and a balmoral, two or three sgian dubhs, uh, two, or three sets of ghillies, a pile of kilt pins and a drawer full of misc. items collected over the years. Not to mention the PC, vest and pipers plaid for formal wear.I think I'm good for accessories for now!

    Thanks again all.

You can get a reproduction kilt made of 20 oz. wool for around $300 from WPG: http://www.whatpriceglory.com/scot.htm

Very cool. If I was looking for a BW or other regimental kilt, that's the only way to go!

However, the next kilt I want isn't a common tartan, and probably be a special weave anyway. Hence the $800 price tag. Not that I really want to pay $800 for a kilt, it's just that I'm very happy with the kilt I have now and don't want to take chances with something I haven't had experience with.

Maybe someday I'll consider a knock-around kilt. But for now, I guess I'm to much of a traditionalist. But I would like something that I could not be so worried about.

Thanks again for the welcome. I'm looking forward to spending some time here on the board!
