    DFW area: "Exploring Chamber Music"

This might be of interest to folks who like classical music:

    Exploring Chamber Music

Chamber music (compositions for small groups of musicians) has always been a favorite among performers of all musical abilities. Please join me in exploring chamber music for instruments and voices by a variety of composers from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries (such as Bach, Mozart, Brahms, and Stravinsky) through historical lectures, in-class demonstrations, pre-concert talks, and lively discussions. I’m offering a course through TCU Extended Education that will include two free chamber music recitals performed at TCU by faculty and participants in the Chamber Music Roundup Festival (www.music.tcu.edu/roundup.asp). The course will take place Thursday 1/3/08 – Tuesday 1/8/08 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the TCU School of Music (exact location to be determined). For more information, please contact me at j.king3@tcu.edu or contact TCU Extended Education (www.lifelong.tcu.edu).

I will be participating in the Chamber Music Roundup -- maybe we can arrange a kilt night after one of the recitals.

This is a really, really wonderful time to relax and listen to something different!

Plus, mkmound represents the kilt very well!

This would be another great opportunity for a Kilt Night over on the Fort Worth side....

Fort Worth wanna give it a try?

(I don't think I will be in from annoying the English, as my plane doesn't land until January 8.)

Late breaking news: "Public Wowed by Roundup Participants!!"

"On January 8, 2008, the classical music-loving world was treated to THE chamber music event of the season: the 2008 TCU Chamber Music Roundup Participant Recital. One critic noted, 'Never before have I heard such playing! Such incredible renditions of the chamber repertoire!' ** Several ladies required assistance in being helped from the hall, having swooned at the both the emotional intensity conveyed through the music, and the handsome appearance of the performers." Ft. Worth News-Gazette-Rant

** The critic later claimed he was misquoted -- that he had said he had never heard such 'rendering' of the repertoire.

Ouch! That's along the lines of, "The angels weep at the sound of your singing!"

Nice photos - fun to click through some of them fast - it's like watching a little youtube. You look mighty sharp - or rather I should say you struck the perfect pitch with your (kilt) ensemble.

    Regards,
    Rex.
At any moment you must be prepared to give up who you are today for who you could become tomorrow.

Rex, thanks! Actually, that whole "article" was tongue-in-cheek, and most of the groups played well. We got some very nice compliments on the two groups which I was in.
