    Another pin thread...

I've been looking around for (And hinting to my wife that I want) one of those pins with a Scottish flag and an American flag.
Moving over there, I thought it might be nice to get one that has some show that I love Scotland and am proud to be Scottish, but I also love my wife and her country, too.
Figured I could get one, take off the butterfly back and replace it with something more kilt-friendly.

Now, I found a few I liked, but I came across a few interesting pins for various tastes and patriotisms, too.

    American Star

    Scots American Curling

    Scots Canadian Curling

    Native American Whale pin

    Brass knot pin

    Drummer's kilt pin

    Charles Rennie Mackintosh pin

    Victorian Jet harp pin

Some interesting pins there. So, what are you going to choose?

Well, I've hinted pretty heavily that I want the Scottish American pin for Valentine's.

As far as the rest of them, I may get the Harp pin for a friend. And I do like the Mackintosh, Drumming and brass pins.
So basically I will probably get most of them.

They might indeed, but I can't drink beer.
Now, if they'd buy my Whisky for me I'd wear it.

You got some fine choices there, Arlen. I think the Scottish flag/American flag pin would be nice. Almost got one for my mother from a local shop, now you got me rethinking that...

They are nice pins and they have a sweet meaning behind them for anyone with ties to both countries.
I think your mum would probably appreciate such a gesture.

Have you investigated using a magnetic fixtures? A steel strip plate is affixed to the back of the pin and is held in place with a strong double magnet. I have one on a family crest pin and it has never moved. No holes or damage to the kilt. Purchased it a a shop that makes ID badges.

I have a few pins I made that use rare earth magnets, and I really like how little they damage the kilt.
The only problem is this... any time I go near anything metal my kilt sticks to it!
That's caused some safety issues when my kilt sticks to machinery I'm using.

I'm gradually working up to just having some very small holes in each kilt and having them reinforced so that I can have a lot of pins and switch them around.
My dad has a few shirts like that so that he can pin his I.D. badge to them and it seems like a good idea to me.

I do have a mother-in-law who is exceedingly good at sewing...
