    Southern Oregon Rabble?

I recently moved the family away from St Peters, MO, a place in the mid-west that's right smack in the middle of one of (if not the) largest Scot/Irish populations in the US, to southern Oregon where, at times, I think I'm the only Scot here!

So, here's my question; do we have a rabble in the Medford, OR area or not? If you're out there, shout out! I'd love to get a Scottish festival going for our neck of the woods so we don't have to go to just one or two a year in Eugene and Winston, OR.

Also, if you can hear me, join me in sending emails to Governor Ted Kulongoski asking him to officially declare April 6th as Oregon's Official Tartan Day.

I know there's a sizable Northern California rabble, but I don't know how close you are to each other...

I see many in the bay area, San Joaquin Valley and southern CA but the closest area to me would be Redding and that's about 150 miles south (certainly close enough).

    For your perusal:

There are several Scottish/Caledonian/St. Andrew's societies in Oregon listed on this web site.

Thanks, Todd. I've been there a couple of times and, unfortunately, the site isn't up to date and contains very little useful info. Perhaps someone will get to it soon.

I've also looked at (Council of Scottish Clans and Associations) and SAAA (Scottish American Athletic Association) and contacted them to see what I may need to do to get something going for southern Oregon.

Umm...the web site has links to several Scottish societies in Oregon. Have you contacted one of them for a list of current events?

That was really my point of mentioning the site -- networking.

I don't see many X-markers posting from there but I think there is a sizeable Scottish population--my clan association is in Cave Junction.

I'm here in Redding. We have a fair number of kiltis here, but I'm the only one on the forum as far as I know. we are getting together on 3.15 for a Patties shin dig at the North Star brewery and I have crash space, shot me a P/M.

Welcome to the rabble! There are a few of us Oregonians on here. I think there are 3 in the Eugene/Springfield area, and some from up north. I think a Oregon getogether would be a great idea, since Oregon is not all that big. Coming up on April 5th in Albany is the Oregon Scottish Heritage Festival.

Thanks for the info, Donn. I spoke to Karen from the Oregon Scottish Society (OSS) and she is supposed to be sending me a flyer for that event. Hope to see you there!
