Arizona Scottish Gathering and Highland Games - Phoenix
Okay, here are some pics. First, I hope you rabble appreciate that both Mr. MacDougall and I drove through a mountain blizzard to get to the games and the palm trees...
And here's Mr. MacDougall in his MacMedic tartan kilt. I love this tartan and only wish I had something more than a current first aid card and an old Boy Scout merit badge towards entitlement to wear the tartan. I think his mom came to the games too...? A chance to compare the Stillwater Nighstalker sporran in ballistic nylon and leather side by side too.
Here's a shot of Retro Red in his new ebay score. Not sure I remember correctly but think its the tartan of the new Royal Scottish Regiment...the combined regiment now....help??? His lovely wife was there too, probably taking the photo. And sorry, I forgot the name of the X Marker in the black Utilikilt....??
And here's B.Somm who has been a good friend for at least 15 years. She and her roomate were kind enough to let me crash at her place to make the trip affordable. That's her Burns tartan over her shoulder.
And here's Keys MacQuarrie down from Camp Verde, Arizona. Think he said someone was with him but I forgot that too, sorry. Tartan is MacQuarrie of course.
Here's Chrome Scholar down from Prescott with Red Raven Studios who missed out on the picture. He's in a Frugal Corner kilt but I forgot the tartan.
Ayn McFye was there too but somehow missed a pic with him and the other rabble on my camera. Know there are more shots of the games to be shared.
And dang it, missed Yaish. Tried to spot him at the competition but didn't locate him. Think he said on another thread he came in fourth. I heard an announcement of all the competitors that came from around the world so that was no small thing to finish fourth.
I wore my Macdonald Lord of the Isles tartan kilt. Had hoped to march with the clan but driving in the snow the day before tired me out and I got a late start...olde olde olde.
The Filson vest was there to stash vendor plunder in as I shopped. A special thanks to Ayin who "appropriated" a Kilt Lifter sign I coveted but hadn't the fortitude he had to "just steal it."
Think my only purchases were a couple Macdonald klit pins and an Isle of Skye necktie.
And, always a treat to eyeball and shake hands with X Marks Rabble. We still have Camp Verde, Prescott, Flagstaff, and Tucson games to go this year.
A good time. Got hit by some snow on the drive back today too, but not near as bad or as far as driving down on Friday.

Boy messed up the pic of Retro Red. And I can't edit posts with photos in them so here's the pic.

Okay, if you look close in the right background of the Retro Red pic you'll see Ayin McFye intent on something else, holding a blue bag in his left hand.

My kilt in that pic is a Frugal Corner 13oz. in Macpherson Modern (Red).
We (Red_Raven_Studios and myself) will certainly be at the Prescott games, and probably Flagstaff, and maybe Camp Verde.
BTW - any chance I can get a higher res copy of that pic of us?

Here are a few of mine...the two kids on scooters are some of the folks I was there with (my scooter club). They will be getting married on St. Patrick's Day in Vegas in a Scottish (kilted) ceremony. Then, of course, pipers, athletes and Riverkilt![IMG][/IMG]

Sounds like it was loads of fun!
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

It wasn't bad. The Wicked Tinkers were great, of course. Got some items I needed.
Bit of a cock up with the shuttles from the garages in the morning. We arrived at the parking garages at about 8:40, anticipating getting to the gates just before they opened at 9:00. No shuttle buses, no sign to say where they were going to stop.
People started to stack up. Pretty soon there were about 100 people standing around on a street corner.
Finally, Red_Raven_Studios and I got back in our car and ran down Central to the park. Two big buses sitting there, doors open, drivers coking and joking. We located an event volunteer and let them know that they had crowds building up at the parking garages, no buses running, no signs posted, and what the h-e-double toothpicks did they intend to do about it? She hopped on her walkie-talkie, we headed back to the garage. Right after we parked and got back to the corner, the buses arrived for the first run to the park.
Other than that, it was a good day.

It was a good time, and a good day. I was, as RiverKilt mentioned, there with my mom, so I didn't go meet up with the Sonoran Scotsmen at the booze tent... my mom's a'gin the drinkin' o' the booze, and anyway, we were havin' a great time, just the two of us.
It was great to see Ron again, though, and I only wish I didn't always seem to have a wierd look on my face whenever someone snapped a picture of me!
