Sgian Don'ts
With inspiration from Panache (along with his source for bottle opener blanks), I fashioned a few Sgian Don'ts.
I had already gave one away to my father-in-law before I took this picture. I had only rounded the corners on the first two but decided to taper down the third.
If I could do this with just a drill and palm sander for power tools, anyone could make one.
I found a better source, with more varietry, for pewter buttons so I plan to make a couple more once I find a local source for more exotic wood.

I like it!
What are your sources for buttons and bottle openers that you found?

Those buttons are from Jo-Ann's fabic but I found this e-bay seller (http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZcelticladda) and have purchased an assortment.
The bottle opener source I got from Panache and will leave it up to him if he wants to disclose it further. But, look closely, if you have done any home renovations, it should look familair.

Oh well, my super secret supplier for bottle openers is...
The Paint department of your local hardware store. There is a paint can opener on one side and a bottle opener on the other. They run about a whopping .99!

I've been fortunate: A friend of mine opened a fine pub, and receives bottle openers, as promo items, from her beer suppliers. Most are nice heavyweight, in many finishes.
She just gives 'em to me... so far I've used 2 to make sgian dont's.

Very nice. They have an unusual sort of look but I think they work really, really well.
