    Bagpiping anyone?

I came across this practice chanters on ebay for from 0.99 to $17. And told myself - what-a-heck and placed a bid on one. So if anyone interested here's link to ebay shop that sales em http://stores.ebay.ca/thinkoutsidethetoybox

PS. My wife will probably kill me for making crappy sounds for the naxt couple of months or may be years, so there's a chance that you'll never hear from me again.

I bet they're bad quality, but you never know.

No practice chanter sounds good to my ear. It's intention must be to prepare my ears for my own piping. My chanter actually is in tune with PM Donald MacLeod as I pipe (chant?) along with his tutorials, but my pipe instructor cringes sometimes at the noise my chanter makes.

if your looking for something to last then spend some money. 60-70 is usually a good price.

You may wish to check with your local pipe bands before you go any farther. Our local band, Rosie O'Grady's Highlanders in Orlando, Florida, offers free piping and drumming lessons if you agree to play with the band when you gain proficiency. It's a great deal -- that's how my oldest learned swing tenor and my second- and third-oldest learned the pipes.

Good luck. Cocus and rosewood usually indicate chanters of Pakistani origin, and not very good tone. They are often not full size (i.e. the same size as a bagpipe chanter) so will cause some fingering problems later on if you go that far.

If you are serious about the pies, find and instructor, either private lessons or with a pipe band.

I've moved this thread to our Celtic Musicians Forum where more of our Pipers are likely to see it.

    Alex,

An X Marker and a friend of mine Andrew Lenz has a site all about taking up piping as an adult. It might be a useful one to take a look at:
