Kilted Friday - encounter with the monks

Paul X608 and myself were walking in the historic section of Fredericksburg headed to one of my favorite watering holes. It had been a hectic work week for us both. We each had on kilts tailored by Rocky of USA Kilts.

We had received a number of smiles and hellos from the ladies, when we became surrounded by a group of orange robed Buddist monks. They wanted to know if we were from Scotland. It must have been a sight for the tourists two kilted guys and Buddist monks!

That definetely would have been a sight for the tourists!!! I wonder if anyone makes kilts that are the same color as the Buddhist monks robes?? You could really make friends with them then!

I seem to recall that there's a tartan for a Buddhist monastery in Scotland, which incorporates saffron and maroon.

The only thing I can find is a tartan for the Samye Ling Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Dumfriesshire:

    From the STWR website:

This spectacular tartan was designed by Akong Rinpoche, guardian of Tibetan tradition and enthusiastic supporter of Scottish culture. An exciting meeting point of Tibetan and Scottish tradition its five colours represent the five elements Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Space in perfect balance. Akong Rinpoche says "when the elements are in perfect balance there is perfect harmony."
Personally, I think that one's standard saffron kilt is a pretty good match for most Southeast Asian (Thai, Lao, Sri Lankan, etc.) monks' robes:

Well, there's always the Irn Bru tartan...

Sounds like it would have been quite the sight, but a nice meeting nonetheless!

Well, now we know that Irn Bru both tastes foul and has a loud tartan.

Apologies to anyone who likes that stuff. I'm sure there are a few out there.

    BLASPHEMER!!!

I still miss Irn Bru terribly, but I can't drink it anymore.

That said, the tartan is very... noticeable.

As far as I can tell, only the private dental profession like the stuff.

I still haven't quite figured out how to get it from that site to this box.
