Greeting fellow kilt wearers! (Question)
First off I typed off a long post I was going to post and went to Submit New Thread and found that the &*%& site logged me off and now I have retype it all over again.
So I will make it short and sweet as I don't really feel like tying it all out it.
First off I have just started wearing my kilt in day to day life when I go out with a singles group I'm involved with. Two weeks ago I went with this group to an ultra trendy nightclub wearing my kilt just so I stand out from all the guys that look exactly the same. Through the time I was there I had three different drop dead gorgeous women come up to me and ask if they could get a picture with me in my kilt. Which was awesome as they snuggled right up into my arms when the picture was being taken. WOW!
I do have a couple questions for you all,
-I'm fairly young (30) and when I go out in public with my kilt such as to the night club I don't want to look too formal. I want to have the party, easy going look. Does anyone have suggestions on what I could wear?
-In my free time I do alot of hutning, this spring I am going hunting for black bear and hope to get a nice one with a good coat. I plan on taking some of the hide and making a sporron out of it. I was thinking of having the bear claw as the front snap. (head would be far too big). Does anyone have any plans on making such a sporron out of fur bearing animals?
Thanks!

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Hey, man! Welcome to the rabble! I've been wanting to do something like that for a long time- get some deer hide from a deer taken here in Colorado for a sporran. I don't know where to start looking, though. I do have a friend with some bear hide... Maybe I can ask him for some! I never thought about doing one from bear hide. That's a killer idea.

Welcome aboard,
What kind of kilt are we talking about here? Hand sewn 16 ounce, acrylic import, Utilikilt, something else? Think that will focus your answers some.

Good point, Ron! I never offered an answer to the question- So, for me, I have found that kilts of all types are easy to dress up or down. Right now, I am wearing a black Amerikilt with a black celtic cross t shirt, cotton socks, work boot and handmade A_Hay sporran. I went to mall with my wife (she wanted to get new earrings) and overheard a couple teenage girls talking about me. One was wondering what I was wearing, the other was calling me a goth, the first wanted to know what I was wearing under it- so it seems that when I dress like I am now, I look goth to kids. However, if I were to put on my ivory Van Heusen, bow tie and Argyll vest with my black Amerikilt, all of a sudden, I've gone from goth to tuxedo. I guess the key here is to take the kilt and give it a good mixing-in with your own personal style. That's my take.
And if you want trendy, you've come to the wrong place... Kilties have a bad habbit of not following trends. Otherwise we wouldn't be kilties, now would we?

I'm wear the farquharson tarten. As I said in my first post I'm a hunter (waterfowl, bear, upland) and I try and incorperate some of that past time into my kilt outfit. I try and wear dark greens and natural leather accessories and ideally this spring I will get that bear that I can make a sporron out of. I got a bear rug tanned last year and it cost me about $400 or so. It would be cool if I could make a few sporrons out of that bear hide and sell them. but I know by law you aren't allowed to sell game animals with out a permit. But something I would like to look in to.

Some of those pictures did give me some ideas, but I guess I'm looking for ideas more trendy ideas. Stuff you see the younger crowd wearing. What I would ideally like to get is a black or dark green t-shirt with a large lion rampart. As accessories some celtic wrist bands or something along that line.

Ah, but you're looking at it wrong. When you're wearing the kilt, you aren't following a trend - you're setting a style.
