How Many Remote/Lone Kilters Out There
Wondering how many other rabble are the lone kiltie in their area. No buddies at kilt night. No other kilters to make wearing the kilt seem more common in their town.
I live at the top center of Arizona in a town of 6,800. Its a 135 mile drive to the nearest city - either Flagstaff, AZ or St. George, UT. Fortunately, Flagstaff is a bastion of kilt wearing, but its still over two hours away over rez roads. Not convenient for a run down and back after work for evening kilt friendly events.
I knew of one other local guy who bought a Buzz Kidder kilt at the 2007 Highland Games in Mesa but never wore it in public back home. He's since moved out of town. I've met one other local guy who said his mother used to sew kilts in Flagstaff before she got too old and that he had a couple. But he never wears his.
And of course, for me, this board makes remote kilting much much easier in so many ways.
So, anyone else an outpost of remote kilting?

Kilt night, what's that? Oh yeah, when I go out with my wife who doesn't wear a kilt. I actually live near a college town, but I only know of two other kilties and I have only seen one of them in a kilt. I also work with a community theater, and I do get lots of comments from some of the actors on my kilt.

I feel your pain, Ron.
I'm the only kiltie I ever see around here in North Alabama except at Scottish society get togethers and occasionally on St. Pats. I did run into one at a rugby match but I haven't seen him since.
So my kilt nights are usually solo affairs.

Me too;
Although I live in the San Fernando Valley (just outside Los Angeles) , only once have I seen a kilt, and that was a young Punk guy, all pierced, branded & tattooed in a black leather studded kilt. He was a really nice young man and we chatted away happily, I think he said he was visiting from Long Beach.
Otherwise, I am the only Kiltie "out of the closet" at least in the San Fernando Valley. Maybe there are others, but I've never seen them (perhapd they just wear them at home?). Of course I don't get out much at night, just once a week.

So far, I've yet to see another one here in Lewiston, Idaho. Outside of a group of pipers that I think are from nearby Moscow.

That was me when I lived in Alabama, and I hated it. As a Canadian with loyalist tendencies, the lack of concern for any old world traditions in Alabama was almost oppressive to me. I survived it for two years, however.
I'm much happier now in NJ, where I get together with the NJ/NY kilted crowd monthly (on average), in a group that can run up to 12 or 14.

Count my area as "an outpost." I'm the absolute ONLY kiltie within hundreds of miles. My cousin Billy has a USAK Casual, but doesn't wear it often.

Thinking back I have within the last five years seen four different men wearing kilts in Copenhagen, Danes and not Scottish football supporters.
I know from the Internet that there must be further one or two. I also know that there is at least one kilted guy in nearby Malmö Sweden – Eric who is a member here.
But then there are men who own a kilt but are not wearing it in public and men who should like to but who don’t dare.
Last week my wife and I attended a funeral of one of her cousins. Afterwards we talked to another one of her cousins, who is working in a very distinguished men’s store in Copenhagen. Ten years ago or so they had a branch named Scottish Corner. We talked about it and my wife mentioned that they were selling kilts. That is not exactly the truth, however; they were selling kilted skirts (Kinloch Anderson) but I have later heard that they were also providing kilts for pipe bands.
The interesting thing: He answered that they had quite a few customers asking about kilts!
But back to your question, no we have no gatherings, what so ever. Consequently I am a lone kilter here.

There is a pipe band in my town, but I haven't seen them. BtK (Wife) met a wife of one at the DMV. I met one at my work (non-kilted). I have seen one young man in a red tartan at the mall, but he is the ONLY other I've seen. I have been told of another in the area who supposedly resembles me (I have a mystery twin aside). The Tripp kilts at Hot Topic sold, but I've yet to see one worn. Very few active kilties here. There were even fewer in Ohio Amish country.

I'd have to say I am somewhat remote. I end up driving about 55 miles to any of the kilt nights up in Denver. Trying to get something going down here but don't know where all the kilties are.
