A Question
ok, now its time for me to sound like a complete idiot...
I've been looking thru a number of threads and keep coming across the term "tanks", I'm sure I should have figured this out on my own, but I just want to know clearly so as not to sound even more like a twit than I do now..
What exactly does the term "tanks" mean when referring to kilts??

The term "tank" refers to an 8 yard, custom-made, wool kilt with all the trimmings; three belts/buckles, fringe on the outer apron edge, selvedge edge instead of a hem, sewn down pleats and usually a cotton inner lining. A new tank can cost anywhere from $400 to $600 USD depending on the shop or kilt maker, though I have found those rare times when they are offered for just a little less.
The term "tank" was the perfect term too.. I have several and they are definitely built like a tank.

Yah, that question comes up a lot. The answer is found under the FAQs which are somewhat hidden under the quick links. Many other useful forum "terms of art" there too.
A 'TANK' is defined as an eight-yard, wool, hand-sewn, traditional kilt. ie., "It's built like a tank." (coined by Jimmy Carbomb c.2005)
Best regards,

Most of us did when we were new... It's just that some of us kept our mouths shut and waited for someone else to ask...

Ya! This guy got off easy. Usually there's more of a public flogging for asking a question... Maybe next time.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Some of us...who me?....go from wondering what the term means to owning a small fleet of them....
