    Curse EVILBAY-more Cunningham tartan

So earlier this week I got a PM from Mark Keeney about some Cunningham tartan on Ebay. I rarely see Cunningham tartan there so I decided to check it out. Turns out that it was 7 yards single width 13oz wool tartan for 169 USD and that is including shipping. I looked to see what comparable tartan was going for on tartanstore.net and found it to be a $100 dollar savings. I decided to put it in my watched list.

What business do I have with tartan? The most I have ever sewn in fabric is a ramshackle beret!? Still . . . $100 savings on wool from Scotland. . . Dang EBAY!

I bought it. Now what do I do with it? I think I will hang it on the wall and admire it, thats about all I have the talent to do with it. . . .

Hmm. With such a grand yardage, you most certainly have to have a kilt made from at least SOME of it. How about sending 4 yards to Matt Newsome for a box pleated kilt? Or send some to Steve at Freedom Kilts for one of his tartan models with hidden pockets?

I guess another Cunningham kilt will be born soon.

You might think about a sewing lesson on how to make a kilt or jacket on the sewing machine from Grandma. That much yardage might make a jacket, or at least a nice scarf or blanket. Or maybe add it to the material she already has and make a kilted skirt for grandma.

Well I leave for DC on May 29th so it would be rough for me to turn something out between graduation and then. I think it will sit in storage, or maybe go home with Grandma. . . .

You have many options. You could have another kilt made with the lighter weight wool for summer. Or, save it for future use in case you do gain weight with age or need some lighter weight tartan for a special lady.

13 oz is a great weight for a kilt. Hope you get a kilt out of it. Be a shame if it ended up as anything but a kilt.
