Converting Normal Jacket to Kilt Jackets?
I know that there are ways to tailor normal sports coats, suit coats, tweed coats, into kilt jackets. Is there really any way to convert any of these into more formal types of jackets, doublets or Prince Charlies? I really am more interested in the doublets (I know there are various kinds). I am on that student budget... If this isn't possible where could I find a pattern to make a doublet? (I have a friend in apparel design who I can put to work.)
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

There are several threads regarding the tailoring of a regular jacket to a P.C.
Here is one for you to look into

That's ok, I hadn't seen McMurdo's link there before. The serch funtion doesn't always get you what you are looking for. I'm going to go add that link to the thread link I gave you.
And Welcome.

Thanks, I probably should have done a better search. But I'm here to talk to people right? Right.

The tailcoat to Prince Charlie is a classic conversion. For tailcoat to regulation doublet, see a thread by kevinkinney A regulation doublet is basically a PC with Inverness flaps, IIRC.
I have been thinking that this coat might be turned into something worn like a Sheriffmuir doublet. Oops, looks like it's out of stock in all the adult sizes! myowntuxedo.com, also a source of new/used tailcoats. Many tailcoats can be seen at the Ebay store monkeysuits

That's a flashy tux jacket indeed! I like the looks of it! I'm really more interested in the Sheriffmuir or Montrose doublets than the Prince Charlie, but I don't have one and it wouldn't hurt if conversion was easy... (I kinda want something more "period" looking--I do period dance and sometimes I want to switch it up for the more formal events.)
