Ancient Red Lewis Kilt Hose Help

Anyone own Lewis kilt hose in the ancient red color? Maybe have a pic?

Color looks orange (which is what I want) in the garter ties, but still looks like red in the kilt hose swatch.

Looking for "orange" kilt hose to go with the incoming Antarctica tartan.

    Any info appreciated.

    Thanks

    Ron,

Having a stock of these in person, I can verify that they are indeed quite orange. Like the "ancient red" you see in most ancient color tartans.

Emailed you but the store was closed so tried posting.

My monitor shows the color very differently between the garter tie photo and the "swatch" on the hose page...so don't know which is more accurate.

That's a solid, athletic orange in the Antarctic tartan...was hoping to match that. No room for reddish orange. Figured they may also go with my Macdonald of Kingsburgh.

I'd thought I had a link to another Lewis kilt hose vendor to check their swatches but can't seem to find it.

Guess my question is, is the Lewis Ancient Red color really an orange that is as orange as the garter tie photo shows...or an athletic orange?

    Thanks.

    Hahahaha.

You're killing us, Ron! Just buy them already. There's bound to be SOMETHING in your closet to match them if not the Antartica tartan.

I emailed Ron already, but just for the sake of everyone else. The ancient red hose are the same color as the ancient red garters -- and that color is ORANGE. Monitor settings may vary, of course, but there is no mistaking the color in person.

On my monitor here, the color shows up pretty true orange in both places, but your mileage may vary.

The reason it's called "ancient red" rather than simply "orange" I suppose is that red tartans, woven in the "ancient" colors, are orange.

Okay, they're here. And they do "look" orange when they're alone. When next to the orange in the Antarctica tartan they look a bit red orange. I'm guessing the usual fading when hand washed will make them a bit more orange and a little less red. They should work with the Antarctica tartan though. Now, have only the tartan necktie to compare them to.

The orange traditional garter tie looks very sharp with the navy blue Lewis kilt hose.

So there's two options plus grey kilt hose, maybe black...

I dyed the orange to match the Antarctic tartan for my son's tartan hose. It is quite easy. If you get a pair of natural wool hose and the ProWash Acid Dye Sampler from Prochemical.com (the bright orange in there is the right one)
    Bottom of this page:

Or just order the bright orange (about half the price and enough dye for 10 pr of hose!) and use vinegar as the acid.

Here's an older pic that shows off the orange pretty well (I did marl the orange with yellow as I didn't want to leave the yellow out of the hose.)
