    Scotweb & Tartan Web

Recently my youngest daughter was married and I wore my Cameron Mod. kilt with the Prince Charlie jacket. (I'll have to post up some pics.) We finally got the pics of the wedding uploaded to the 'puter (from three different cameras) and managed to print some photos off before running out of photo paper.

Anyhoo, my Bride (of thirty years) commented to me on how great the kilt looked with a jacket and waistcoat (I think what she meant to say was how great I looked , but I digress ) She has been looking the various vendors here and wanted me to ask the other kilters here about their experiances with and service from Scotweb and Tartan Web. She is looking at the tweed Argyle in charcoal with matching waistcoat. She wants to stay within her planned budget of $300-$350.00 (US)

    Thanks for your replies!

I have seen a few kilts from Scotweb, and they were expertly done. I have not personally seen any of their jackets or waistcoats in person but if their attention to detail and service carried over to their coats then I don't forsee that you would be dissapointed at all.

If you do end up purchasing from them, we'd love to see some pictures and maybe a review.

Good luck, and congratulations to your daughter on her marriage, I wish them many years of happiness and health.

    Slainte!

I have ordered 2 kilts (one handsewn 16 oz and one machine sewn 13oz), and argyle jacket and waistcaot, a seal skin dress sporran, and a few pairs of hose, etc from Tartanweb and have always received good service and a great product.

Scotweb (formerly the Kiltstore) is a valued contributor here and has been a sponsor since the early days of Xmarks. Nick and his staff have a reputation for going out of their way to provide great service and an excellent product.

I don't think you would go wrong with either option. Check out the sale items at each site as well. You may just find one in your size.

Scotweb also offers a 10% discount for members of X Marks the Scot if that is any incentive.

    Cheers

Thanks for all the comments. I'll take a look at what they have and do some price checking. The 10% discount is indeed a good incentive, thanks for the reminder Jamie.

    Hi Earl,

I haven't ordered from Tartanweb in a while, but I always got great service from them. I don't know how their service is now that Douglas Gregor has left. I will say that I miss his stewardship, as the level of creativity with regards to new garments seems to have gone away. Douglas always amazed me with his new takes on old clothing, and was always receptive to new ideas. At any rate, I would think that for the type of jacket you're looking for, TW is likely still just fine. I also see them on Ebay from time-to-time if you're in no hurry to get one.

    Good luck

    Alex

    Hi Alex,

I always enjoyed working with Douglas. Did he retire? Start a new venture?

I agree that through his creativity many interesting jackets were designed .

Well after looking over both sites, it looks like the wife wants to go with TW. They offer the jacket and waistcoat in 15 ounce wool. Even with the shipping costs, it's $50.00 less than Scotweb. Boy, is she frugal or what?!
