MacLeod of Lewis
So, this may seem like an unusual question, but is there a weaving of the MacLeod of Lewis tartan that isn't quite as "loud"? Or perhaps an ancient or hunting version that I am unaware of?

The short answer is no.You can have very loud(modern),loud(ancient),and not quite so loud(muted/weathered).

There are McLeod of Harris Hunting (Modern/Ancient/Muted) and McLeod Red. Not the McLeod of Lewis, though.

I think that there are about a dozen MacLeod tartans to choose from, without going down the modern, ancient, weathered route.Only the 3 choices of MacLeod of Lewes(aka MacLeod dress) though.Loud, loud and loud!

I seem to recall from the swatch book at the tartans museum a Macleon of Lewis that had the bright yellow drop to a very nice muted gold. I wish I could remember the name though.
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

From the Appalachian Highland Games 2006:

I think it's a beautiful tartan that should be worn with pride!

We can all agree on that! But consider the MacLeod of Lewis, Dress Mtd in House of Edgar's medium weight Old and Rare line, as well as the Lochcarron Strome ancient and weathered. Methinks a swatch order would be wise!

I have a MacLeod of Harris kilt and it's pretty bright too (although blue predominates instead of yellow)
