    Must have's

I have been wearing a UK for quite a while and am very comfortable in it, but thus far I have not had need for the typical accessories that go with a more traditional kilt. I am looking for advice and suggestions about thing to use for daily wear. I am a simple kind of guy so I tend to lean toward things that are less ornate and more durable. To help put it in perspective when I am not wearing the kilt I wear a pair of beat up brown Corcoran jump boots (that have been resoled a couple times) Levis 501 jeans (also somewhat beat up looking, they just last forever), Brown leather belt, and a good old Hanes cotton tee. (As I said simple and durable). since a traditional kilt does not have pockets I figure that I will need a sporran, probably a kilt pin. if anyone can make a recommendation that seems along those lines. Oh, as a general rule I carry a cell phone, a Laguiole pocket knife, wallet, watch, keys, screwdriver(I work on computers, have to open them up to replace parts), Pipe, tobacco pouch, and tamper. Thanks Guys,

As far as a sporran goes, look up A_Hay on this forum. He makes killer basic daywear sporrans, for a great price. The one I have has more room than I will ever be able to use.

Well for a traditionally-styled kilt, as you mentioned the minimum is a sporran, and usually some kind of wide belt. The other basics are hose, flashes, and a kilt pin. I usually buy a pair of matching flashes when I buy a kilt. But in truth none of these items are absolutely necessary. It just depends how you want to wear your kilt.

    Best regards,

When not "open", I'll be very casual around the shop. Usually I'll wear one of the "contemporary kilts" I own (fk, uk, rk) or a casual kilt or 5 yarder with just a sporran, tshirt and pair of sneakers. When the shop is open, I wear a 5 yarder or premier with a polo and belt and sneakers or hose and ghillies.

Bottom line... If YOU are comfortable in it and think it looks good, that's all that matters!

EDIT: I'll also second the suggestion for a custom sporran from a_hay or turpin... If you need extra space, ask them for a bigger sporran or one that is DEEPER (more room for the sporran to expand... So there would be 3 or 4 inches max between the front piece and the back piece of the sporran) than average sporrans.

A good Sporran is a must, as mentioned already Turpin and A-Hay are both very good but also consider a Freelander or a Ferguson Britt you will not be disappointed. Also Kilt Hose, flashes and a kilt pin would be what you would want perhaps you could look through the style threads for some ideas of what other wear with their kilts

    I hope this helps.
