    Games #2 under the belt

Last Saturday I got to compete in the Tacoma, Wa Highland Games. It was hot, no not hot, stupid hot!! The shade gave only a little relief. It was a bit unusuall in the throwing area. We were in the middle of a Horse arena, on plywood platforms. It hurt my distances by about 15 feet. I could not do a double spin as the footing was unstable. The plywood was covered in astroturf, but it would rock with each step. I was still able to pull out a 2nd in the C class overall. I took first in the open stone with appx. 35', braemer style, and in the Caber, with an 85 degree no turn, an 11:30 and a 12:00. After that it was mostley 2nds and 3rds. Ok, there was a fourth, the light hammer. The hammer is my nemesis! I know what to do, I just can't seem to get all the parts together in one. Well, next I will be throwing in the B class in the Portland Games. I will try to meet some of you then.

A 35' in the Open stone is definitely a B class throw, and if you're turning 12:00's on a C caber you can probably move up to the B caber too.

Do you remember your other distances? Have you entered them in the NASGA database?

It sounds like you had a great day over all, 2nd place is nothing to be ashamed of. I've thrown from those wooden platforms before too, and they suck but not so much as throwing in the mud does.

I have them at home, but I don't know if they have updated the NASGAWEB yet. I think they were going to do it for me, but I will have to check again.
