How to prevent a kilt from dropping

Need Help. What are the ways that I can help my friend avoid having his kilt drop in mid-activity *again*!
I made this 54" waist (<< 54" hips) Xkilt for a friend and it dropped in the middle of a dance. He wears it at a couple of inches above the navel. He didn't notice that it was slowly slipping lower and lower until it lost traction. (Everybody laughed *with* him and he himself laughed albeit turning red a little).

Some things I know to do:
-make sure he tightens his belt sufficiently.
 -maybe he should wear suspenders

 Other suggestions? Thanks!

He needs to cinch the straps up a touch tighter. I'm a 54 myself, and I know the problem he has. It never quite sits right. If he's sitting, it's too tight. If he's standing, it's too loose. He just needs to get used to it being a little snug when he sits.

Perhaps he should wear a belt around it that might help, and as you say make sure the kilt is done up properly.

Anything but suspenders!! There are experts out there but I would think that you could sew a dart into both sides of the kilt?

The belt nice & tight for me; Someone tried to de-kilt me in a bar as a joke. It never moved. The de-kilter was actually someone I know who is a bit of a prankster.
I said; "Duh! you're supposed to try & LIFT it - can't you get ANYTHING right?"
But he could see by the glint in my eye, that he'd better not try it.....

That's why I always wear a nice, tight belt.

If he can pull off suspenders in a kilt, I would like to see it. I have an issue with pants and shorts staying put on me (waist and rump pretty much same size) and belts only do so much. I like how suspenders keep up the lower garment.
Other than suspenders or tighten the belt, not sure what to suggest.

Thanks for the replies. It will ultimately depend on his choice but I would say suspenders would make it safer and more comfortable. I can't imagine cinching the waist too much with a belt to keep the kilt from falling. Any experiences from gentlemen of substance with of getting belt welt marks or belly discomfort?
Although some would disapprove of suspenders for aesthetic reasons, I would argue for it in his case, for reasons of comfort and of having the lowest probability of it dropping again. (I'm concerned because in addition to him being a friend, his kilt is one that I made: 14 box pleats of 3" across, with 12" apron). We'll need to punch a few more holes in the belt.

I have seen pictures of, I believe, an X Marker on here who uses black suspenders on a black shirt in his dark gray kilt.

Darts in his case won't work because the aprons just hangs out from the belly and the hips are already about 5 inches smaller in circumference.

 Thanks again.

I don't have one now but I'll arrange to have one taken and make sure it's pre-drop.
