Kilt Spotting
Just saw a neighbor visited by a man in a kilt, he spotted my irish flag and waved over to me. Nice to see a kiltie here in Saint Louis, least of all woodson terrace. I have just moved here and have been apprehensive about wearing my kilt for the neighbors gossip. But this has changed my mind, hopefully I will get some positive feedback.
Also just got back from a trip in Chicago, as soon as we got off the train I saw an old man walking up Jackson wearing a kilt, he saw me in my flatcap and saluted. Hopefully these are signs that kilts are to become more common and accepted.

Hi Dan, welcome.
I agree, kilt up. Then you can do the saluting.

Dan,
If you want to kilt up with other kilties about before you go it solo, there are some good opportunities coming up in the next few months.
Off the top of my head, I know Old Blind Dogs will be playing at the Focal Point in Maplewood on Friday, September 26th, and there should be a good number of kilted folk attending (including me).
Also at the Focal point, on Friday, October 3rd, will be a performance called Piperlink. It's a multi-media performance with some great pipers and a singer and a historian - should be a good time. My wife will be out of town that weekend, so I'll probably be there (and there's a good chance my best friend will be, as well).
If you're into theatre, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis has a production coming up called The Lieutenant of Inishmore, playing from September 15th through October 12th. My best friend and I are going with our wives on October 11th and we'll be kilted.
Mmmm... can't think of anything else going on in the immediate future at the moment, but if something comes to mind I'll let you know.
Oh, just thought of one... The Tap Room (that's a link to last year's flier) always has a Robert Burns night in January. Sometimes it falls on a bad night, like last year, but if it falls on a weekend, I'm definitely up for going. The night is celebrated with a Burns-esque poem written anew each year by Tom Schlafly and the tapping of the first barrel of Schlafly's Scotch Ale for the year.
Once you get a few kilted nights out under your belt, you should feel a bit better about wearing it to other places.
One place you'd be sure to get lots of positive attention would be McGurk's Irish Pub down in Soulard.
If you ever want to kilt up for something and want to see about others meeting up with you, shoot me a PM.
Cheers,
