My first attempt using Tweed

Showed this material to someone in a thread in Kilt Advice,but thought I would put it here being its DIY.
Took me about eight hours total (slow ya know)used only four yards of eight after deciding I wanted it lite for hot weather.
First got the idea from Robert in yet another thread.
So here it is:

Darkened the background to show the true sandy brown colors,and I'm still waiting for a brown day sporran.
Intend to still add belt loops.

That is great? I have made a couple of X-Kilts in cotton and would like to attempt a plaid with knife pleats. So it would be very helpful if you could answer a couple of questions, it looks like you pleated to the red stripe. How many red squares from pleat edge to pleat edge. Also is it recommended to sew the pleat edges if it were say cotton, and if it were wool? Thanks.

From the first pleat there are three,and the pleats are two and a half inches deep,with fourteen pleats total not counting the first reverse pleat that is six inches deep.
As for cotton probibly yes to sewing down the pleat edge,but never with wool.

Personally,I have tried a few cotton kilts but ended up trashing them because they are poor at holding a pleat.(I know the cotton farmers are gonna get me for that)
As for the tweed I showed in the pics:
Had worn that kilt all day before taking the pics.
And as for costs.Only paid about twenty dollars for four yards double width.

By the way.I have four yards of the tweed above left over,and im going to sew it up pleated to the black stripe.
Will post it here to compare when I get it done.

Great job!! With cooler weather coming I think I could see that with a Black & White Herringbone jacket.

Still have a bit of work to do on this one before I start the next one.

Was a lil afraid the one above might end up looking to much like a plaid,and I would end up not wearing it.
Was afaid it would look to much like a plaid rather than tartan,but im real pleased the way the pleats look.
Other than the front apron,most people wouldnt notice.
