blasted kilt hanger....

I may be slow, or perhaps I'm just proving the old adage that there's no stupid questions—just stupid people, but I can't seem to figure out how to make my SWK kilt hanger function. I tried just clamping it onto the waistband with the kilt folded as it would be worn, which appears to be how SWK demonstrates it, but it was much too thick for the hanger. Also of note, the kilt is a SWK heavyweight.

What am I doing wrong?

Ah, yes, it may be that he was demonstrating one of the lighter versions. What you may have to do is use more than one hanger. One for the pleats, and one holding the two aprons.

Of course, there are a couple of other ways of doing it, and none are particularly wrong. I'm sure others will come up with other ways.

Well, given your avatar, the only way you will get it to work is to fasten it on the kilt while being shot out of a cannon, simultaneously playing "Lady of Spain" on knee cymbals.

Seriously, though - all of my kilts are hanging from SWK hangers, including the 18 oz Hunting Stewart and the double-layer Maple Leaf (10 oz PV lined with 7 oz hemp/cotton jersey). Pleats in the back, fold over the underaprons, fold over the aprons - just like they're being worn. Occasionally the hanger needs a little help sliding into place, but once it's latched the hanger stays on.

Already tried that, it didn't work.

I'm pretty sure it's the legit kilt hanger, not the glorified skirt hanger BEEDEE mentioned. I'll play around with it and see what happens. Thanks fellas.

Sorry to say none of mine worked to hold the kilt and after a couple of clampings, the metal part bent out of place. Guess I just never had luck with that kind of hanger, but I can see how it might work with two of them on one kilt.

My suggestion is follow the advice of The Wizard of BC and get some hangers with the clip type things like the ones you get for free at clothing stores. Though, I just buy mine at Walmart. Never, ever had any trouble with that kind of hanger when I started using the two hanger Wizard of BC system.

If you can't get yours to work, I suggest rolling it for the time being until you can get a couple of clip hangers.

Oh, and as for the swk hanger, I had one when I had a swk heavyweight, and it worked, but I ended up stretching the plastic part so that it didn't hold the kilt well... One night it just fell out of the hanger in the middle of the night. I think I tried to squeeze too many layers into it.

Jerry over at SWK has a heavy duty hanger 16" wide that has an all-metal hinge/latch on it. I've had two SWK heavies in it at the same time with no problems. It didn't spring out of shape, either, most likely because it's made in the USA. Go Jerry!

I use this as well and have no problem with 16oz tank or SWK heavyweight. But be sure to get the heavy duty one, Jerry also sells a small hanger that is really only a skirt hanger.

Scotweb sells a specific kilthanger that is extra wide and has four strong metal clamps to hold all three layers of the kilt simultaneously without folding or doubling. I think they are worth it and have several that have never let me down.
